BIG to field s1n for IEM Rio Major and BLAST Showdown

The 20-year-old will continue his stand-in stint with the Germans for the foreseeable future.

BIG have announced that they will continue to utilize the services of Elias "s1n" Stein for their upcoming tournament bids. The German youngster is set to stand in once again in the squad's campaigns through the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown and IEM Rio Major.

faveN to miss RMR through illness

The academy player was initially called up to fill in for the main team back in September as a replacement for Josef "faveN" Baumann, who was sidelined from the IEM Road to Rio Europe RMR due to illness.

s1n will continue to stand in for the main team at the IEM Rio Major

BIG had a relatively successful run through the RMR in spite of their roster woes, finishing in sixth place with a 3-2 record to secure a Challengers Stage berth.

Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz's side recorded wins over Sangal and Vitality to go 2-0 in the swiss stage, before dropping 0-2 series to both ENCE and HEROIC to be within touching distance of elimination. In the end, however, the team was able to get the job done, a 2-1 victory over K23 being enough to clinch them a spot at the $1,250,000 Major in Brazil.

s1n will be aiming to have more of an impact in the next two events with the German roster, with the 20-year-old averaging a modest 0.93 rating during BIG's run through the Major-qualifying tournament in Malta. tabseN was quick to praise the academy player, though, stating in an interview at the RMR with HLTV.org that "s1n is far better than we all expected."

BIG kick off the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown with an RMR rematch versus Sangal on Thursday at 16:30 . The Germans will then head to Rio de Janeiro in time for the Major, with their opening matchup set to be versus the hometown favourites of FURIA on October 31 at 17:30 .

BIG's roster for the Fall Showdown and IEM Rio Major will be:

Germany Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz
Germany Florian "syrsoN" Rische
Germany Karim "Krimbo" Moussa
Germany Nils "k1to" Gruhne
Germany Elias "s1n" Stein (stand-in)

Germany Fatih "gob b" Dayik (coach)

BIG bought faveN for a record transfer for a German player and he is doing decent, better than s1n obviously. They keep s1n because faveN is ill.

Faven has a bad stomach sickness, something permanent, if he was able to play he would, I think its going downhill with him sadly, who knows if he ever comes back.

Why cant they announce these things before fantasy starts. Yea obviously they wont think about timing announcements regarding fantasy, and im expecting that they do that. It just would be the ideal scenario.

BIG in 2022 has more games with stand-ins than with their default roster. s1n is good but the eye test @ the RMRs kinda showed that he needs more experience. Although that might change with more preparation time. Faven on the other hand may not have been the carry a lot of fans expected but he looked more stable/reliable. syrson started to look amazing again though. Tabsen is always reliable. But that’s about it for this roster, I feel like k1to krimbo and s1n are - right now - too inconsistent - I don’t think BIG will reach playoffs in Rio.

think the main goal are the legend stage. Like you said, with K1to, Krimbo and S1n there is uncertainty, how they will perform. A playoff spot would be huge with this line-up. But we will see. Maybe S1n is so hyped to play a major, that he will rock this, we will see. :-)

i think its a good idea to keep the lineup to have some consistency until the mayor. Maybe tiziaN would have been the better choice, for some more experience, but they had to have chosen him as RMR sub from the beginning. looking forward, s1n makes more sense anyway.

They can keep a German core, just not 5. TabseN, syrsoN and Krimbo/faveN are good enough for T1 CS imo. Then fill up with good international players and you still have a "German" Roster on paper. The issue is that they want 5 Germans so they can communicate in German.
