djL: "I didn't feel like we were even on the server"

The Ninjas in Pyjamas duo of Daniel "djL" Narancic and Hampus "hampus" Poser appeared on HLTV Confirmed and shared their thoughts about the current international lineup and the unsuccessful Rio campaign.

On Thursday, djL and hampus joined the HLTV Confirmed live show from the Rio Major, talking about the signing of new IGL Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen, Fredrik "REZ" Sterner taking over the main AWP role in the team, and their winless exit from the Legends Stage.

hampus appeared in the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed

Before the conversation touched on the lineup changes, the Swedish duo first reflected on their exit from the Major, where Ninjas in Pyjamas got eliminated from the Major with a 0-3 record. They recorded losses to fnatic, Outsiders, and Sprout without winning a single map.

"We had really high expectations and we felt really good coming into the tournament. The result was kind of rock bottom, I didn't feel like we were even on the server," began djL. "I still feel bad when I wake up. I don't know if we put too much pressure on ourselves, which we usually don't do. It was a weird feeling."

The disappointing result comes after Ninjas in Pyjamas completed the signing of IGL Aleksib from G2 in early September, causing the team to shift to English communication. hampus compared their previous style to the one under the new IGL, highlighting the improvements in structure.

"The calling now relies much less on flow but much more rules and agreements, which gives more things to think about in game." The ex-IGL is also happy to be able to focus on his own game, now that he is free of the calling burden. "I mainly think about myself and the protocols now, compared to before when I had to think for three or four people. I feel super good in the new role."

"Aleksi has more to say than hampus, he wants more rules and more structure. We are also much less reactive and loose than under hampus," added djL.

djL joined NIP at the start of 2022

Bringing in a non-Swedish IGL also meant the team switched from Swedish to English communication. Even though international teams are a mainstay of the scene, both Ninjas in Pyjamas members admitted to having some trouble. "For me, it's tough sometimes, when you want to talk about the small details. 90% of the time I can talk, but occasionally I struggle," admitted djL.

The organization also recently ended its ill-fated relationship with Nicolai "device" Reedtz, who returned to Astralis after a long period of inactivity in the Swedish organization. With no primary AWPer on the roster, the role fell upon REZ, who has always been a rifer in his prior teams.

"He is the most mechanically gifted player in Sweden, he can AWP," djL began. "This is something we talked about for one to two months, and REZ wanted to try and give it his all in the role."

"Taking up another role is never easy, you don't just pick up the AWP and think that you will be s1mple. It's a lot of hard work, and I think REZ is doing an amazing job. He is working his ass off."

so Brollan went in there to play for a Swede line up, they immediately change it to an international one, and then complain about "the communication in the small details"

They will get rid of esetag, get draken, then they will dump botleksi and get like... anyone swedish. Maybe even some young guy. Or get proper top tier awper (if you wanna stay international). This is mess and makes zero sense. I mean they prolly got fucked by dev1ce quite a bit, but that is long time ago, they should act now. Having just aleksi (as non swedish speaking player) on this roster is pure bullshit. When hampus was IGL he was quite amazing TBH, now whole team is just a mess. They lack firepower WHILE having problem with comms.

Hampus was not amazing as an igl. The team overperformed. They cannot had any t rounds with him. I agree with the awper thought. Put rez on rifle, drop esetag, get a real awper.

They weren't as bad as a T-sided team as people think, but they did lack a lot of structure. Hampus still was forced to become an IGL rather than being one by nature.

Well the thing about device is that maybe the players themselves didnt even know what was going to happen. Trying to build a proyect upon something so unstable kinda sucks. Now then can act and adapt with confidence, but until 1 month ago they didnt know if device was coming back or what, hence why they never got a real awper in the team. (My guess).

If your management decided to hire the most overrated player in CSGO history, its no surprise that your team disappears from the servers.

In what world are you living? Esetag was struggling as an awper. Hampus was not a good igl. His calls were robbish. Maybe aleksib was not the solution, but nip was horrible before aleksib addition.

The times have come when mfs get paid 20k per month to play the game and can't even find inner motivation to actualy perform better than a bunch of washed up clowns on the most important event. Always excuses and shit, but the truth is that players nowadays are just a bunch of spoiled kids. One inconvenient variable or one event where they do good, and that's enough for them to lose motivation and fire to fight. Fucking pathetic. That's why s1mple is the GOAT and will remain such, because he's aware of the position he's in and how lucky he is to be there. People with that mentlity are rare af but it was more common in old times (vp, sk, nip) because players were actually playing for many years without being able to live in comfort or even getting paid at all. Today most mfs get lazy and comfortable in their position, starting to see even majors as pointless thing. Fuck off then and go work on the construction. Maybe that will teach you smth about life.

People can talk their shit but let's not act like management hasn't fucked this team over countless times now. The Dev1ce pickup left this team without an identity for over a year. They've only just picked up a "real" igl and they still came into the major without an awper (I don't count rez just yet). Give NIP a few months to recover, they'll be good again - eventually
