Anubis replaces Dust2 in Active Duty map pool; AWP and M4A1-S nerfed

Valve has released a new update to the game, bringing changes to the map pool and to two of the three most popular guns in the game.

In the most recent CS:GO update, Valve has announced that Dust2 has been removed from the Active Duty map pool and replaced by Anubis.

The incoming map is community-made and was first added to the game in 2020. After being removed from CS:GO in 2021, the map made its return on the game's 10-year anniversary in August and has since received extensive updates to the layout.

The developers also made adjustments to the AWP and the M4A1-S. The sniper rifle's magazine size has been reduced from 10 to five bullets, and the popular CT rifle now does less damage at long range.

Changes to the M4A1-S come after the community has long called for its nerf. Valve last adjusted the weapon in June when its magazine size was reduced from 25 to 20 bullets, a change that had little effect on its usage over the currently near-unused M4A4 at the top level of CS:GO.

The AWP receives its first adjustment since a 2020 update that removed its movement acceleration following a shot fired while crouched, and only the second since 2015, when movement speed while scoped was reduced for the Big Green as well as autosnipers.

Tournament organizers have yet to comment on when the new update will be brought to their competitions. The closest upcoming top-tier event will be the BLAST Premier Fall Final, taking place on November 23-27. HLTV.org has reached out to BLAST for a comment on whether the gameplay part of the update will be in effect in Copenhagen.
