Astralis' IEM Katowice hopes in jeopardy as CPH Flames win CCT Central Europe Series 4

This was Copenhagen Flames' fourth event win since October, and it may have prevented Astralis from attending Katowice.

Astralis may find themselves sitting out IEM Katowice 2023 after suffering a defeat by Copenhagen Flames in the final of CCT Central Europe Series 4. It was a tight series that could have gone either way, particularly on the maps that the Flames won, but ultimately wins on Inferno (16-14) and Nuke (16-14) either side of a loss on Dust2 (6-16) were enough to secure Flames the victory.

Astralis' failure to win this event has likely knocked them out of contention to qualify for the IEM Katowice 2023 Play-In. They were in a tight battle with Evil Geniuses and paiN for the final ESL world ranking spots, and were at the disadvantage of suffering more from rank decay than either of those two; the Danes' Roobet Cup and IEM Cologne finishes will drop out of consideration by the time Katowice spots are locked in.

Astralis are likely to be watching IEM Katowice 2023 from the sidelines

Considering the fact that Evil Geniuses and paiN will secure a sizeable number of points from the ESEA Autumn 2022 Cash Cup 7 North America as both have already locked in at least top-four finishes, they are likely to be ahead of Astralis in the ESL world rankings when Katowice spots are finalised.

Astralis had a smooth journey to the final of this tournament, besting the likes of ECSTATIC, 1win and Apeks, only dropping a single map in the process. As is to be expected, Benjamin "blameF" Bremer and Nicolai "device" Reedtz were the main carry forces driving the Danes onwards, with the former the highest-rated player in the competition.

Their counterparts, Copenhagen Flames, had an even more dominant run en route to their meeting with Astralis, sweeping ESTOWNIA, ECLOT and HAVU in the bracket with the final result being particularly impressive considering the 11-2 series record HAVU sported prior to the match.

The Flames side spread the fragging around throughout their run with Thomas "birdfromsky" Due-Frederiksen, Rasmus "raalz" Steensborg, and Thomas "TMB" Bundsbæk topping the scoreboards for a series each, while Iulian "regali" Harjău was their most consistent performer.

This competition was more successful for Astralis after they were knocked out of device's return tournament in 5th-8th by HEET, having only managed to best Tricked before that. The AWPer was in good form throughout this event, finishing with a 1.26 rating over 10 maps, but he was ultimately outshone by blameF, who sported a 1.38 rating.

As for Copenhagen Flames this event caps off an outstanding end to the year that has seen them win CCT South Europe Series 1, CCT Central Europe Series 3, and the European Development Championship 6. In November and December combined they had a 14-1 series record, with their only loss coming to ECLOT, and in that run they have beaten the likes of HAVU, Falcons, SINNERS, K23, and now Astralis.

The top finishers in CCT Central Europe Series 4 were as follows:

1. Denmark Copenhagen Flames - $22,000
2. Denmark Astralis - $10,000
3-4. Europe Apeks - $5,000
3-4. Finland HAVU - $5,000
5-8. Russia 1win - $2,000
5-8. Czech Republic ECLOT - $2,000
5-8. Germany BIG - $2,000
5-8. Europe GamerLegion - $2,000

he wasn't even getting the easy ones, most of his frag were 1 shot away from death, at this point they should really try someone new, the only positive I saw from this match I took was Xyp9x still got it, especially on Inferno he carried his team so hard, but no one else showed, that could have been an win and an ez 2-0 for Astralis.

Nah, MistR at -33 is a fucking joke. Get k0nfig back right away Astralis, move on from what's happened. In a competitive environment, winning should be the most important thing, not what your players do in their free time. Performances on the server are what counts. Or pay whatever Sprout wants for Staehr, either way works.

Sure karrigan has been looking great lately bro... Getting spanked left and right for the last six monthes while IGLing the most firepower heavy team in the World ... He might even get kicked/forced to retire soon enough so...

FaZe only bombed out of the major, outside of that they're always a quality playoffs team. Also, how is FaZe the most firepower heavy team in the world lol. ropz and TwisTzz are amazing and have been for a while, beyond that, rain was supposed to be washed (pre karrigan) and broky couldn't peak and was too inconsistent (pre karrigan) Meanwhile gla1ve got prime k0nfig returning with a fire on his belly and peak baitF and he couldn't do shit for a year, now device is back and he can't even qualify to Kato LOL. Keep ur bias frenchie, u got beaten by the GOATs twice in a day LOLOLOLOLOL

Broky was already improving and honestly if you couldn't see he was a future great AWPer back then I can't do anything for you. Personally I've been saying it since FaZe put washed up Olof on the main snipe. Correlation =\= causality btw, how do you know broky wouldn't have continued to improve without karrigan ? Hint : you don't Also I was referring to the first six monthes of 2022, typical karrigan, fast improvments, fast peak then nothing, then eventually kick. As far as FaZe not being a firepower heavy team Care to name anothee team where basically all the players but the IGL had between 1.10 up to 1.17 rating for six monthes straight in 2022 ? I'll wait. Last time I saw this was prime 2018 Astralis with the closest thing being second 2021 semestre Na'Vi...
2022-12-20 14:20

I can't do anything for you if you're unable to credit the IGL for broky's immediate improvement into a top 5 awper in the world. I don't need to know if he would've been better or not, karrigan got there, he improved instantly, he's now top 5 in the world as an awper and a lot more consistent. Fast peak then nothing Team of the year Top 4 at their last 2 events of the year Where tf is gla1ve? Almost like karrigan's leading made players that were struggling improve tremendously, again, signs of a great IGL. Something gla1ve can't do, look at Farlig :p. Na'Vi has more firepower than FaZe, C9 has sh1ro and Ax1le which is more than anything they have, it's arguable G2 does aswell (NiKo, huNter, m0nesy, jks). Stats aren't everything. FaZe has higher firepower than Vita, heroic, VP, and mouz of the current top 10. They're tied with FURIA and Liquid, and behind the rest (arguable w some) This is exactly the point Thorin made last year when FaZe got ropz, he said how people will discredit him when he grabs all players that are either borderline top 20 or outside of it and brings them to the top, and it's happening. The GOAT igl.

Wow, how the mighty have fallen... From 4x Major Winners, setting the new tactical meta and becoming the most dominant team ever, to being beat by regional underdogs and constantly failing on the international stage. Xyp clearly isn't what he used to be, Gla1ve prefers to lead his men from beyond the grave, the whole dev1ce debacle didn't help either and on top of all of that, losing k0nfig lol They really need to go back to the drawing board tbh

Yeah this was hard to Watch. Borups a hold on nuke was hella impressive though. But Astralis has more than a few issues, granted Flames is a solid tier 2 team, but this shouldn’t happen. Cup is washed, his little resurgence is gone and he’s just not there. Poor first bullet accuracy and labored sprays. “Mr” is not ready yet. They could probably do with a solid coach as well.

The org is shit for many reasons, kicking k0nfig being the worst. With that said, MistR singlehandedly threw that series. Such an terrible outlier performance will be punished by any team whether tier 1 or 2. If we have to look on the bright side, blameF and dev1ce are consistently posting 1.20 ratings, xyp stepping up massively and gla1ve doing a lot of things right. Honestly, get a solid 5th and this team is back in top 10 of CS

It was understandable but they should take him back in a few weeks. That, or put the money on the table to get Staehr or some top rifler

MistR had rubbish stats for the reserve team, not sure why they picked him to stand in. Shame because k0nfig in this lineup might be a top side. Dev1ce certainly looked sharp.

If the newbie got like 10 kills more, it would have been an easy game for Astralis, lol. Time for konfig redemption arc ?
