GODSENT defeat BIG to reach BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic semi-finals

The German squad is out of contention after receiving a direct invited to the quarter-finals.

GODSENT, one of the 3-0 teams in the BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic Swiss group stage, have upset the world's No. 18 team, BIG, in the first round of the tournament's playoff stage.

BIG, who have long been hailed as one of the stronger teams in Europe when playing online thanks to victories at events like FunSpark ULTI Europe Finals and Roobet Cup in 2022, lost to the Swedish side 1-2 in their first match of the tournament during a period of readjustment after the benching of main AWPer Florian "⁠syrsoN⁠" Rische in February.

The Germans were one of four teams alongside Cloud9, MOUZ and Virtus.pro to be invited straight into the tournament's quarter-finals, whereas GODSENT made it through the first stage with victories over Sprout, Sangal and HEET. They then defeated the Frenchmen once again in the first round of playoffs before taking out BIG.

GODSENT's 18-year-old Joel "⁠joel⁠" Holmlund is having a breakout tournament, not only thanks to his 1.43 rating so far, but also as his side's top player in the quarter-final win against a top 20 side, as he punched in a 1.44 rating with 100 ADR.

BIG will now set their sights on the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, which they will kick off against Rare Atom on March 30, before traveling to Copenhagen, Denmark, to take part in the BLAST.tv Major's European RMR in April.
