G2 defeat Cloud9 to secure Paris Major berth

The storied organization is back at a Major after missing out on IEM Rio.

G2 defeated Cloud9 in a 2-0 series to clinch a place at the BLAST.tv Paris Major set to take place from May 8-21. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company opened the series on Vertigo with a dominant win (16-6) before closing out Inferno (16-13) after almost dropping a 13-5 lead.

G2's RMR campaign got off to a bad start after the European combine lost to 9INE in the opening matchup, but they stabilized and won their next best-of-one games against iNation and Aurora. They then finished the job with three dominant halves against Cloud9, quashing the demons of their IEM Rio RMR run and returning to a Major.

G2 come into the Paris Major as one of the favorites

G2 started the series incredibly well and raced to a 7-0 lead on Vertigo before Cloud9 were able to stabilize. With their advantage shrinking, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov found a quad-kill on an eco to flip the momentum and allow his team to comfortably sail towards a 16-6 lead. Despite the youngster's heroics, it was Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen who surprisingly topped the server with a 1.58 rating.

Inferno started much the same, G2 running away to a 7-0 lead only for the half to end 10-5 once again. A second pistol round got G2 13-5 up and their win seemed to be just a matter of time, but the European combine ran out of steam somewhat and allowed Cloud9 back into the game. Their lead was still enough for them to close out the series with a 16-13 win, though, securing them a Major spot in the process.

they faced ence, heroic, c9, because those opponents were higher seeded, they were considered to have faced harder opponents xd

bcoz they come from 2-0 to 3-1 and g2, vita from 1-1 to 3-1 that means they dropped down from from 2-0 (higher seed), while g2, vita went up from 1-1.(lower seed).

I'm not a g2 fan per se but I'm so glad they made it to the major. Would be awesome to see them find their form from earlier this year and for niko to win the last major. Don't particularly like the guy, but he deserves it

teams get separate points depending on the results of the opponents they played, 1 point for win and -1 point for a loss. For example, monte's score is currently 3, since they played against heroic (qualified 3-0, +3 points), cloud 9 (still in the tournament), ence (still in the tournament) and forze (still in the tournament). G2 has 0 points from playing 9ine (+3 points), iNation (-3points), c9 and aurora. Vitality has 1 point playing against astralis (-2 points), 9ine (3 points), BIG (0 points) and NiP (0 points). Because the decider game is played tomorrow, the round 5 point changes don't matter here so up until now monte has the best buchholz score.
