flameZ replaces dupreeh in Vitality

Vitality seek to "build a new generation of champions" with a move for a younger talent.

Vitality have announced that Shahar "⁠flameZ⁠" Shushan has replaced Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen in the roster. The French organization has thanked the Dane for his contribution to the club and welcomed the Israeli youngster, who joined the team on a free transfer following the end of his contract with OG.

dupreeh's time in the active roster ends after nearly a year and a half. In that time he helped the team win three titles, at ESL Pro League Season 16, IEM Rio, and most recently at the BLAST.tv Paris Major. The Paris victory marked the Dane setting a new record for most Major victories by a single player, as he secured his fifth following four Major wins with Astralis.

dupreeh shared his hopes to add a sixth Major victory to his name at the first CS2 Major in Copenhagen

The veteran has released a statement saying he respects the decision despite his disagreement with it. "I don’t feel we had come to the end of the road with the current team, but I respect Vitality´s decision and wish them all the best," dupreeh said.

He went on to share his aim to join a new team and hopes to win his sixth Major at the PGL CS2 Major set to take place in March in Copenhagen.

"I still feel I am on the top of my game and will spend my holidays on exploring what the next chapter in my life should be. Obviously would love to win the 6th Major in my hometown next year, but winning a Major is not easy and I would need to find a team and an organization who share my ambition, professionalism and willingness to sacrifice to achieve the goal.“

flameZ joins Vitality as one of the hottest prospects of the ongoing tournament break. Reports linked the former OG star with interest from several top teams, and he has ultimately joined the current No. 1 squad in the world to reunite with compatriot and former Aequus and Tikitakan teammate Lotan "⁠Spinx⁠" Giladi.

The French organization shared a clear direction with the move, saying it was made "in order to build a new generation of champions" and pave the way to "cultivate new talents and strategies that will keep our team at the forefront of the Counter-Strike scene."

yeah. as of the 1st half of 2023 xertioN really performed better, but I think that MOUZ were a lot better than OG to begin with, and a lot of the times flameZ was actually brought down by that fact (that sounds hella coped I know, but flameZ is still a great player non the less). both players are really good and I hope to see them thrive and prosper

I actually don’t think they have any shot at an era now, removing veteran experience and the most decorated player in CSGO for a hot-and-cold rising star doesn’t exactly spell consistency. I know it makes sense firepower-wise, but I would definitely not expect them to be consistent since Vitality already had issues with that

The team have experience. Zonic, Magisk, Apex... Even Zywoo have been there for some times now. My concern is more about attitude. With Dupreeh, when things go bad, you still speak to him with respect. Of course, that what is expected between human being. But I hope having a young one will not change that, otherwise the spirit might go bad. That being say, I also don't know what Dupreeh brings outside and in the game. So, it's a risky move, not so great timing from Dupreeh perspective... Feel unfair.

It shows that Dupreeh was in overdrive mode during the last 3 tournaments. Players explained multiple times that the little Jackz inclusion changed completely the way they looked at Dupreeh's role. He instantly improved after coming back and trying to play like Jackz did. More instinctively. Also the players were putting way more work than usual preparing for this major. There's a good chance that Dupreeh can't stand that level of involvement and dedication in the long run with his family work now. I wouldn't be surprised if the players talked about it together before taking the decision. In the end bringing a young promising prospect to open a new chapter now is better than waiting for Dupreeh to completely crumble under pressure of seeing his child grow and working hard enough to stay the n°1 team in the world. New game, new season ... the old lion is leaving the pack.

Everyone is crying that Dupreeh is a great player and they just won a major. Yes he is, yes they did. I suspect this is a decision to cement their team going forward longer term. You already have a core team of Zywoo, Sphinx and Magisk who could have 5+ years of domination together, adding flamez in for dupreeh is just ensuring that the team isn't all of a sudden going to lose their 2 older players in a year or 2 due to retirement/poor performance. I'd like to think that they are going to slowly transition Magisk to 2nd caller/calls on some maps etc for when apex/the team decides it is time for apex to also leave. Additionally business wise this is a super smart move. You sign a young talented player without paying a big buyout, but you still have dupreeh on the bench in case it doesn't work out and you sell flamez.

FlameZ is above “average tier 1” in my books. As a massive Degster fan there was a period where I can comfortably say FlameZ was OG’s best player. His quality entry skills are exactly what Vitality need, Boros may become better but it’s hard to gauge how they compare right now. iM is a god, I can understand wanting him more. I truly think he will become a top 10 player. Its hard to say what made Vitality not pursue him, maybe they did and he chose Na’Vi. It’s weird Na’Vi is the only rumour we’ve heard for him… makes me feel like he chose them and wasn’t budging.

Winning two events in row including flawless major run + making roster changes 4 weeks after = PURE BRAINDEAD I stand by that no matter how good options were for Vitality, you just don’t mess with winning formula until it works (ask 2017 Gambit and Rio Outsiders), it is not just about fragging and rating, team chemistry and synergy is a thing. FlameZ is another young hungry player who I really doubt will take all the shit roles dupreeh played.

Astralis had zero intentions of removing Kjaerbye, North offered him $$$ and he stabbed Astralis and his team mates in the back, that’s why Astralis signed Magisk, otherwise no roster changes would happen, astralis players themselfs confirmed this at the time. Not to mention Kjaerbye left Astralis after 2 disappointing Majors and one year after their win in Atlanta so it is completely uncomparable.
