Sources: Astralis close in on stavn & jabbi deal

Astralis reached a breakthrough in negotiations with HEROIC despite a charged relationship between the two rival teams.

Astralis have closed in on an agreement with HEROIC to buy Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund and Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard out of their current contracts, sources close to the two organizations have revealed to HLTV.

The blockbuster deal is about to come to fruition after weeks of negotiations, which were made all the more difficult by a charged relationship between the Astralis and HEROIC camps.

In the latest of several dramatic events and moves between the two rivals, HEROIC suggested in their October 25 announcement of stavn and jabbi's benching that Astralis made an unprofessional move for the two players.

The scathing statement claimed that the duo had agreed to extend their contracts with HEROIC on the condition that Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller be replaced and that they later went back on their word saying they had already made future plans with Astralis.

Heroic temporarily remove stavn and jabbi amid Astralis interest

This was left without a response from Astralis, but stavn made a Tweet also shared by jabbi, which said, "Gotta love the world we live in. What is the saying? Truth always prevails."

It's unclear at this point which two players out of Johannes "⁠b0RUP⁠" Borup, Victor "⁠Staehr⁠" Staehr, and Christian "⁠Buzz⁠" Andersen would be benched from Astralis to make room for the new additions.

The two outgoing players should play out one final tournament with the team, next week's BLAST Premier Fall Final taking place in the organization's hometown of Copenhagen, regardless of whether the new additions are finalized in time.

BLAST's rulebook doesn't allow changes to the submitted roster after the deadline passes outside of emergency situations, and Astralis have submitted their current roster along with Mikkel "⁠MistR⁠" Thomsen as a substitute.

Unfortunately this doesn't fix their IGL problem. Star rifle IGL has never worked for any team. Denmark consistently produces the finest IGLs in the game, with Danish leadership powering most of the top 5. Clearly all the other teams recognize the importance of quality calling even at the expense of fragging power. Astralis has not prioritized securing proper IGL talent, and they are destined to have middling results until they do.

Well the heroic org was once a norweigian org but was recently bought by russians. Maybe the players didnt want to sign with russians or maybe the new owners way of doing things wasnt the same as the players intended. Maybe they tried to get out of their contracts in a better way where cadian could get another team and then stavn and jabbi wanted to go to the biggest org in denmark with blamef and device. There is alot of reasons why you wont make new contracts with the new heroic org, this was just one of them. The heroic org they signed contracts with last time is not the same heroic org you see now. I guess it could be the same reason Kasper Straube leaved heroic and joined Astralis when there was an opportunity, because he saw what was coming. if my theory is right it makes sense why both cadian got benched and the players want to join another team. Their only other option is to get benched and not play for 10 month until the contracts are ending, and thats the reason they talked with Astralis. Nothing wrong with that.

Why would Heroic release this statement then? Your saying they straight up lied? And why would Astralis let that sit there and not say anything against it, i mean it throws bad shade on their potential future players and therefore on Astralis aswell. There is only two options. 1) Heroic statement was true and cadian was forced out by snakes, just for them to leave afterwards. 2) Heroic statement is a lie and they all wanted to leave by themselves, but no one is saying anything against the Heroic lies. Yup: Just selecting OUTSTANDING stats amongst all orgs. Astralis is CLEARLY the most successful org in the game, but they for sure haven't been since the end of the era. With "the best of both worlds" (Heroic and Astralis) they may have a chance to compete yet again against top5 teams for the first time in years. In other words: A GENIOUS move by BOTH Astralis and the two hard-hitters from Heroic: Without Cadian there is no "heart and soul" left in Heroic. They obviously assessed their options and chose the best possible in Denmark. Otherwise they could've moved to other regions/countries, but maybe they wanted to stay here under these heavens. I wouldn't be so confident dude, previous superteam projects have failed hard. You need someone like sjuush who has years of experience and can identify what's happening mid-round while also willing to play bitch roles. The proposed Astralis team doesn't have anyone like that.

Are you dumb? "Your team breaks up", they literally made fake promises, they intended to break, just to get out of a contract and destroyed Heroic at the same time. If the statement from Heroic is true, Stabbi are disgusting human beings. Its still unclear what role Astralis played in it, but i think they also did some shady stuff, like promising a spot in Astralis, if they can get out of their contract or something. To get back to your Astralis best org, wow they had a good squad one time. What other good moves did they make. They lucked one time with a good team, how does this make them a good org in any way?? dupreeh and xyp earning over 2m and assstralost made no good decision that helped them, easily so. After device left: extend old xyp, stayed too long with gla1ve, drama with konfig, sticking with lucky and swapping his role, promoting young talents and none worked out but Buzz (not really but he's not a failure). I'm not engaging in "good" or "bad" org discussions. I'm just describing the most successful org: A million dollar brand worldwide. You hold on to the "backstabbing snakes" babble ... as you like. It's heresay, rumours, opinions, emotions ... which is not for me/my thing. Jabbi and Stavn were assessing their options and found Astralis as their preferred choice, staying in Denmark and all that. The "drama" is probably interesting to some. Knock yourself out, but to me it just looks like two pro's looking for their next step in their career. On paper it looks promising! Time will show. They said they will extend contract if Cadian leaves, then take it back and leave aswell, pretty much destroying heroic. How is that assesing their options? They were probably just hoping to be released for free, but instead Heroic kicked Cadian. You are just being ignorant and looking away and thats okay if you dont care, but dont defend it then. (An "opponent" is NOT the same as an "enemy"!) 😉 So when you ask why "I defend them" ... In fact I was not! I was pointing out that Astralis is THE most successful org in CS. And when you say "... probably ... hoping to be released for free" ... Hmmm. That's the whole point of engaging in this discussion for me. We DON'T know what happened when, we DON'T know if Stavn and Jabbi "voted Cadian out" or if Heroic Management decided to bench Cadian, since there were (practically) NO TROPHIES under his command for three years or so. That an org (in this case Astralis) reaches out to the players happens all the time. Nothing "shady" about that. It's a simple yes/no question: "Do you want to join us?" In other words, there are SOOO many things happening "behind the curtains", and we only get a fraction of the "truth", hence the Twitter/X-feeds from Stavn and Jabbi. Of course we have all the rivalry and "hype" between Astralis and Heroic, the two biggest names in Danish Counter Strike: Whenever a "third" name shows up on the Danish scene, they don't last for very long, like North, Copenhagen Flames, Mad Lions or what have you. Problem is, with devve and blameF in the team, he can be at BEST be the guy with the 3rd most freedom. So far he has been very on-off, and on average not cutting it. I would have liked to give him some more time though. borup isnt terrible, but on average clearly not good enough to lift any trophies, even online gigs. buzz is the best out of the three, taking on a lot of responsibility as their point man in takes. He's at least average, a good filler. And devve won't let him go, he has a big bromance for him.

Don't you think you are getting a bit overly conspiratorial here? You are connecting some internal roster problems in Heroic and magically assuming that Astralis was in on that? If you are a regular reader on HLTV you would be aware of beneath. 1. Cadian had wishes on finding a replacement for Teses. 2. Jabbi & Stavn vetoed that decision. 3. Cadian ended up getting benched due to the noise the above made. 4. We do not know if Cadian set an ultimatum. Roster change or he would be gone, right? You then connect the above so that it is suddenly Astralis that set up this whole scenario? Come on.. I do not have any particular great feelings for Astralis, especially their management, but managing a CS team is a business and you are bit too blue eyed if you slander them for trying to pick up two top30 players in the world.

blame is not even lurking currently, he's been a pack rifler since device addition a year ago. it's mostly buzz who does hard lurks but it is irrelevant - the weirdest thing is the potential ct setup. you have 3 players who are used to playing extremely mobile rotator roles and only buzz who knows how to anchor a site. he usually plays as a big site anchor (mirage, ancient, inferno) and there is nobody in this team who is an obvious small site anchor (currently b0rup does this job). tl:dr - there is no B jumper in this roster. potentially you could make buzz a B jumper and try to force jabbi to play as a big site anchor but it seems weird as fuck to utilize him in such manner

I can rather imagine jabbi as an anchor - it's similar to what vitality did with flamez or mouz with jimmy (they both played starplayer spots in their previous teams). idk, I am sure they have some plan, it just looks so weird from the outside. one thing I can bet any money on - we'll never see blamef being an anchor, astralis ct setup is pretty much based on him playing rotator roles

yeah it would be an incredibly confusing group of players where their best, very particular, roles don't really match with each other jabbi is a great anchor, but he's the dynamic type of anchor that will actively try to find gaps in a smoke or try to surprise you through momentum. not necessarily the one you would want on all maps, and least of all in a structured team like Astralis at all.. im not sure but contrary to a lot of people, i do see the option of blameF being willing to trade his better roles. it already happened when he played in coL, and i think it fits him better although he would be less impactful

jabbi is surely going to stay B site (did a fair job on maps like mirage) and on T side return to entry role before he joined heroic. He is not capable of being a star lurker anyways, and there is the presence of a clearly better choice of lurker in the team (blame). Real question is CT side role for stavn - more role clashes between him and blame, but they have been teammates in the past so I’m sure they will figure it out

I would choose Staehr over buzz because he has higher ceiling and is looking good in cs2 (good performance overall in CAC) and at the end of the day if a team wants to be a real contender then most of the players need to reach their ceilings to outperform the opponent - blame, devve, and stavn (him at least in group stages) are the core and the floor, but someone else needs to be the X factor.

I could see them use Buzz as an entry (if he stays). If Staehr stays he’s probably going to be the entry. The pack will be Staehr/Buzz, BlameF and device (or atleast should). Could be Buzz/Staehr, Stavn and device. Either way, the one of BlameF and Stavn who’s not in the pack is going to be an extremity player with Jabbi. On CT, it should be Stavn and BlameF in the rotator roles, Jabbi and Buzz/Staehr as anchors. Most logical is to keep Buzz cause he already is playing as an anchor and is probably more willing to be bait/entry on T side (he kind of already entry lurk)

I have thinked about it regarding normal sports. I think that one cannot bench himself that easily in normal sports. In csgo they often have different benchsalary, but in my understanding they don't usually have any penalty for not playing. Fucking your team over by negotiating deals with other team should be punishable, I agree. System right now can only look at specific tournament, but since we have no such tournament right now where these two teams would meet, they cannot really deny the transfer. I would like to think it would be different if it happened for example between rmr and majors. I'm not sure though about anything. As for Cadian getting kicked. Thats laziness, trustfullness and amateur mistake from whoever negotiated from Heroic. Black on white would have made this much less of an mess.

I see a lot of people making Heroic the "good guy" in this scenario. At the end of the day it was a Heroic (org/coachs) decision to bench Cadian, not Stavn/jabbi's decision. I agree that the behavior from Stavn/jabbi is immature and disrespectful, but it honestly shows lack of professionalism at Heroric aswell. And i hate Astralis as much as the next guy. Astralis = Clowns Heroic = Idiots ... and that comes from a danish guy.

I don't get the hate these two get. The Stabbi thing is pretty funny, but for me, it's a pretty logical move from their side. They put a lot of time into Heroic and reached their peak which wasn't high enough to constantly win tournaments so they decided they needed something new.
