Astralis set to install ruggah as new head coach

The 35-year-old is poised to take charge of the Danish giants once his OG contract expires.

ruggah will join Astralis "on April 1 the latest"

Astralis have announced that they have reached an agreement with OG head coach Casper "ruggah" Due to take charge of their team, as reported by HLTV. He will take over from Peter "casle" Ardenskjold, who was relieved of his duties at the end of last season.

It will bring an end to ruggah’s spell with OG, which started in January 2020, less than two months after the organization entered CS:GO. He has been the only constant of a team that has gone through multiple iterations over the years and remains trophyless on LAN

The 35-year-old will take charge of the Danish giants "no later than April 1," when his current OG contract expires. IEM Chengdu looks set to be his first event guiding Astralis; until then, it will be assistant coach Mathias "R0nic" Pinholt standing behind the players at tournaments.

"I am happy that we have come to an agreement with Casper, who, in addition to being a really skilled coach, comes with experience from the highest level," Astralis sports director Kasper Straube said in a statement.

"This is one of our priorities in the larger analysis work we have done around the requirements for a coach in Astralis and our culture, as well as the expectations we have for all members of our coaching team.

"I feel that we have been thorough in mapping out the requirements in relation to both short-term needs and long-term development, and the choice has fallen on Casper, who, in terms of personality and approach to team management, is almost a perfect match. I am very much looking forward to working with him."

Astralis part ways with casle

ruggah wasn’t the only coach that Astralis approached about replacing casle. At one point, former HEROIC coach Richard "Xizt" Landström looked all set to join the Danish organization but then talks broke down. The Swedish coach wrote on January 7 that he was still open to offers for the 2024 season.

It’s a busy start to the season for Astralis, who had to come through the closed qualifiers to reach the European RMRs. The Danish team is attending the BLAST Premier Spring Groups before traveling to Poland for IEM Katowice.

Nope he joined, was their official coach for a bit, ESL investigated Astralis and fined them shit tons for getting Hunden to do work for them while under contract with heroic. So they fired him and their sporting director

He wasnt, he was some other kind of coach. I think he acted almost as their official coach but just not in public, feels like he had alot of impact for not being the official coach but he was kind of behind the scenes coach

+1, Xizt is easily the best coach not taken right now and I’d say top three out there at all. But no, Ruggah because he’s Danish. Xizt led a Danish roster at Heroic but I guess that Swedish blood can’t be allowed at Astralis.

Who did he actually work with? OG never made a transfer over $200k. Throughout OG's entire stint in CSGO, they had always been either a placeholder team or some hatching ground for tier 3 prospects.

It's interesting how much hate ruggah gets because of his stint with OG. I am not a fan of OG and I'm certainly not a fan of Astralis, but I'm quite intrigued to see what he can do with an actually competitive roster, instead of being given funds that could only allow him to build budget MOUZ.

"I am happy that we have come to an agreement with Casper, who, in addition to being a really skilled coach, comes with experience from the highest level," Line No.87162489071624 of why you never trust what Astralis says in any public statement ever. Astralis PR never ceases to amaze, like, guy is alright, I don't think he's bad, but he never did anything to claim he's on the highest level. OG is typical Pay-to-Win org inflating it's rank to relevancy by paying for tournament spots. I guess Astralis did the same for the past few years, so it's a match.... they won't do much more this year...

Good choice, ignore all the haters I think as a person he fits very well into this setup, and as many of us have seen over the years, chemistry is more important than 1 person's vision. This might be the missing piece, becourse honestly I have not been happy with any coatch on Astralis since Zonic. He has the right pieces, which he barely ever had on OG. Besides, I am happy we are keeping it Danish, and I would have been sad if they have taken on Xizt, I am not a fan of he's style.

Well I don't actually like it tbh., I think ruggah has done nothing but failure basically since like what, 2017? His time in North and now in OG, it is nothing but a fail, he failed to build a good team structure in every single roster he had, I really hoped this would be Xizt for Astralis, and I'm extremely dissapointed I have to say, hopefully he proves me wrong, but I don't like this signing at all.
