The tournament organizer had come under fire for the performance of their PCs.

The TO have added CPUs with 3D V-cache capability

PGL has announced changes to tournament CPUs for the European RMR, swapping out the 2020 AMD Ryzen 5950X for the more recent 2022 5800x3D. In terms of GPU, the computers will still run on Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB graphic cards.

While not the absolute top-of-the-line, the new CPU is a gaming-specific chip with AMD's 3D V-cache — a feature particularly useful in CS2 — and should address some of the concerns from players who were struggling with frame rate early on in the tournament. It can also be plugged into the same motherboards as the 5950X, and paired with the same RAM.

Gamers Nexus' October 14 benchmark tests for CS2 put the 5800x3D sixth for average frame rate at 455.5 per second, a good deal behind its 7800x3D successor at a whopping 573.4 and the Intel i9-13900K at 510.2.

Regarding the bottom 1% percentile performance, however, the 5800x3D jumped to second place at 270.1 FPS, outperforming the Intel and non-3D AMD chips above it on the overall average as it doesn't dip as low and helps with stability.

The situation should also be helped by Valve releasing an update on February 16 which included "various performance improvements," after the February 7 Arms Race update affected frame rate negatively.

When contacted, PGL told HLTV that this was a "temporary fix for Europe," and did not comment on the rig specifications for the Americas or Asia RMRs, which will be held in Monterrey and Shanghai, respectively.

i think 200fps in CS2 is not enough for Pros, even if they have ~ 300, i mean CS2 FPS Drops are pretty heavy, ranging from 230 FPS to 140 in a single Map ... to say i have 200 FPS+- seems ok but is just shit in the End. Will switch from 3600 to 5800X3D in a month too

I have a 5950x myself and the game is stuttering as hell sometimes. Around smokes and stuff the frames drop from 350 to 180fps sometimes.

Have a 7950 now. With 4090. Before 3600. The fps on 4k (yes 4k) Were Max 30 fps more.

They are playing on 360hz screens, it means you need more that 360fps to run it smoothly.

I mean, you can play football with snickers, but its not good for pro players at all. They are aiming for the best perfomance possible, so they need the tools to do it

decent upgrade, using 2 CCD cpu in the first place was a bad idea and this is a good response without building completely new PC's which would probably not be feasible given the time constraints. Rare PGL W.

I disagree, it matters a lot because if you're not confident the PC will handle things correctly you will play differently from what you are used to and this usually benefits the "worse" teams and some types of players, the only time it doesn't matter is if everyone gets good PCs so there's nothing stopping them from doing whatever they want

I think they should have just normal pc, as it represents the casual gamer. It just tells me that you are a bad player if you need a 3k€ PC to perform thats better than 95% of playerbase means = spoiled / rich / excuses. Good player can adjust if there is small changes done, and as long as everyone is having the same playing field its fine. Does not give a good look for the game also if every pro player says its pay to win.

PGL is so poor in 2024 am4 platform. Just do normal PC with i9 14900k and RTX 4090. Its main tournament, and it must have the best what you can find in the market.

7800x3d is an AM5 processor and I am assuming they are using AM4 socket motherboards, so they can't use them. But if they would like to change their processors, they also would have to change motherboards and RAM which is like complete change of PCs overall.

yes but also 7700x is still better than 14900k, i have a ryzen builded with 7700x with 4080, and have about 40-60 fps more than friend thath have 14900k with 4080 too , but i think its not about the pcs, but about that the game is still bit broken ...

They have gone from dual core processors, GT 1030 graphics cards 60 hz monitors to quad core processors GT 1050 graphics cards and 144hz monitors they are happy now :)

I really don't understand how they can have some many years of experience at this point and still come off as amateurs. It's commendable that the backers are willing to spend whatever it takes, but they really need to get some experienced people in production. It's actually astonishing how bad they are at sound mixing.

Sure, but do you not think that it was an actual person who made the call to have sub-par PC builds in the first place? An experienced person in that position would be able to know the need for a competitive environment, and that person would also be aware that CS2 has a bigger demand of specs for that environment.

I don't know their structure either, but I can tell you as much that a person made the decision to use those PCs. They don't just appear automatically. And since they have intense issues on several other fronts, I just think of PGL management in general as amateurs.
