CCT announce details of $500,000 Global Finals

Sixteen teams will compete in the online competition from May 16-23.

The organizers behind the Champion of Champions Tour (CCT) have announced their 16-team Global Finals, scheduled to take place from May 16-23 with $500,000 on offer.

The event will feature 11 teams qualified through the tournament organizer's Studio and Online Finals circuit and five directly invited teams. The organizer added that some qualified teams may not be able to field a roster, so the complete list of teams and invites is subject to change.

Included among the list of qualified teams are IEM Katowice champions Spirit, as well as recently-confirmed PGL Major Copenhagen attendees Virtus.pro, Eternal Fire, and AMKAL.

The tournament will divide the field of teams into four GSL groups, from which eight teams will advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket.

"The CCT 2022/2023 season was a massive undertaking and the reception by the community was incredibly rewarding and humbling," said Fabian Logemann, Head of Tournament Operations at GRID, CCT's tournament commissioner and data infrastructure partner. "We’re excited to cap off the first Tour with Global Finals in May and we can’t wait to put on a show to crown the Champion of Champions."

The team list for CCT Global Finals currently looks as follows:

Such a shame that it‘s online again and not a LAN as promised…

Well, maybe they put all their money in the prize pool and there isn't anything left for organizing a LAN event, something that would have also come with some serious expenses: venue, hotel(s), security, catering, transport, network setup, etc.

Maybe, but I think most people, including me, would have preferred a LAN with half the prize pool over this, which is gonna be just like another Online Finals from last year. Online CS is just not the same.

well considering that the players have to move around the world all year to play lans its probably best for everyone that there are some online tournaments aswell. also having big prizepool for such event gives smaller orgs a chance to get something which is nice.

The CCT teams aren‘t moving around all the time. Aurora, Preasy, Forze, Ecstatic and Amkal all mostly play online CS and then maybe three LANs a year if they‘re lucky. CCT could have given Tier 2/3 European teams chances to prove themselves on LAN instead of in another online tournament. Also, as a viewer LANs are way more engaging to watch.

Its the same teams u see on LANs not some random online qualifier. I dont get why its so super important for ppl to have everything on LAN. It stays the same game.

>It stays the same game Nope, it will never be the same, there is a reason why people are called onliners. "Do it on LAN" is something people say since CS1.6 and even in Cs2 every pro says that the game feels different on LAN than online.

You may but I am sure that orgs and most players prefer it this way because I don't see many people planning a trip to visit this event on lan.

There are 5 more invites to be given, those should be some "top" teams.

honestly i hope they aren’t to high on the leaderboard because CCT is primarily a tier 2 circuit and then suddenly inviting FaZe clan & Vitality is kind of a slap in the face against those T2 who came through the circuit

Agreed, teams like ITB, GL and Guild Eagles would be some fun invites.
