Sprout cease operations

The German organization says it can no longer sustain its business model.

Sprout has closed its doors after six years in CS

Sprout has announced it is ceasing operations and that its players and staff are looking for a new home after being released of all contract-related obligations. "As we concluded our preparations for the coming year, we were informed that our year will be cut short," the organization's statement on Twitter reads.

"We have come to the conclusion that our model of developing talents and passing them on in their blossom is not financially sustainable without occasionally being a challenger to play on the biggest and most prestigious stages," said Sprout's statement about the reason for the decision.

The news comes mere days after the organization signed a trio of new players, including two-time 2023 bold prediction Paavo "podi" Heiskanen on loan from ENCE Academy.

Sprout sign trio including podi

Sprout entered CS:GO in 2017 with the signing of the former Seed roster, which featured Kevin "kRYSTAL" Amend, Jesse "zehN" Linjala, Paweł "innocent" Mocek, Denis "denis" Howell, and Timo "Spiidi" Richter. The team appeared in the ELEAGUE Major 2018 Challengers Stage before going through a plethora of roster changes in the coming years.

Sprout would reach their peak of No. 16 in the world rankings at the end of 2020 before the organization qualified for another Major in Rio under the leadership of Ismail "refrezh" Ali, but fell short of qualifying for both the Paris and Copenhagen Majors in recent years.

The organization also employed an academy squad, Sprout Academy, with the players free to explore opportunities after being released from their contracts.

The following players are now free agents:

Denmark Rasmus "raalz" Steensborg
Poland Jan "cej0t" Dyl
Ukraine Daniil "Sdaim" Tupov
Poland Kamil "reiko" Cegiełko
Denmark Emil "sL1m3" Stolz

Romania Mihai "fNk" Costache
Finland Aleksi "millert" Lehtopuu
Australia James "SaVage" Savage
Lithuania Vilius "tAk" Keserauskas

Denmark Danny "BERRY" Krüger (coach)
Serbia Mihajlo "Feed" Petrović (academy coach)

they started with nothing, had good placements, beat Big alot when they were underdogs, and have developed players like wonderful, staehr and zyphon who are playing in tier 1 right now. its more of a success story.

Imagine thinking zyphon and wonderful, i'll say again WONDERFUL we're developed by sprout =)). Zyphone developed by cph flames and wonderful was a tier 1 player long before navi (team spirit), you a casual. Why dont we talk about players with huge ceiling that gone downfall because their greedy ass organization wanted the moon to sell them (wink* launx). And buying an aggressive star awper just to transform him in a support and play for all 4 teammates, playing half of that period with the coach and hundreds of stand-ins igl, wondering why that didnt worked afterwards. Berry got this org in the grave.

idk how sprout is structured, but I worked at a company where managers were doing business as usual then suddenly got a notice that CEO and the top heads had done their annual planning meeting and all our side of the operation would be shut down... so it is possible that the guys responsible for signing the roster weren't actually the ones making this decision and were just blindsided by it as everyone else

same in Spain, only KOI / Movistar Riders survived, back in 2019 or so there was a league with 12 teams lol

I mean they had many big names on their rosters, I guess they just weren't setting high enough buyouts?

Pretty sad, but expected, the whole concept of Sprout as the name says, was to be a platform for players to develop and jump from, it’s just not the right business strategy / motivation to have a successful org.

Quite the contrary, if it works out you sign players when they are cheap and then sell them for a decent buyout It's basically what ENCE is doing all the time and I think they are one of the very few orgs who are actually making a net profit

You don’t make any sense as it didn’t work out, and Ence isn’t like Sprout, they’re successful AND sell, Sprout never had that.

It worked for years and just because it didn't in the end does not mean the concept itself is flawed that's why I brought up Ence who basically do the same and are very successful with it Don't know what's so hard to understand about that

Obviously they closed because it’s not working out anymore, I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about it. You feel attacked because you’re insecure, which is typical for a German. This isn’t about you.

Sad and pathetic try at a “comeback” but just shows what a character you are. Maybe go play video games instead of trying to have a discussion, it’s clearly too much for you.

Name + obvious kid that tried to talk like a mature person while not even getting the point I made, being offended by something which doesn’t concern him. Pathetic Kid, being mature involves more than using big words, your big words need to have meaning. Just saying, maybe try to remember that next time.

After the Rio Major Sprout made many idiotic Roster Changes again and again like NIP today without the financial backing and Brand Value they basically destroyed themselves over time.

It's only going to get worse for the CS scene. T1 and T2 gap will widen and it will be much harder for smaller teams to stay afloat.

Sucks but their roster just kept getting worse and worse with every iteration to the point of near irrelevancy. Brutal nature of esports.
