Liquid and Wildcard to replace Complexity and M80 at IEM Chengdu

The new-look Liquid have been extended an invite after two teams pulled out.

ESL has announced that Complexity and M80 have withdrawn from IEM Chengdu, with Liquid and Wildcard inheriting their spots at the Chinese event, set to be played from April 8-14. The North American duo got the spots as the second and third-placed squads in the North American Closed Qualifier, won by M80.

Liquid's invite comes as a big chance to bounce back from their early season setbacks, as the team missed out on a spot at the Copenhagen Major and BLAST Premier Spring Final. The Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller-led squad also recently pulled out of Skyesports Masters 2024, set to be played at the same time as IEM Chengdu, to make room in their calendar.

For Wildcard, the invite allows them to make their Big Event debut after Peter "⁠stanislaw⁠" Jarguz and company were eliminated from the Americas RMR with a 1-2 record.

IEM Chengdu will feature a $250,000 prize pool, with FaZe, G2, and MOUZ headlining the team list for the event, set to be played from April 8-14. The attendees will be split into two eight-team groups, with the distribution yet to be announced by the tournament organizer, before a six-team playoff bracket will decide the victor.
