G2 end last home team's hopes of reaching arena days in Chengdu

All of the local squads are out at the event in China.

Lynn Vision, who have started to show themselves on the world stage after playing the PGL Major in Copenhagen — where they beat FURIA in a 1-3 run in the Opening Stage —, were eliminated from IEM Chengdu by G2 in the second round of the lower bracket.

This G2 victory puts an end to Chinese teams' hopes of making the arena in front of the home crowd, as Lynn Vision had to step over their TYLOO compatriots in the first round of the lower bracket and Steel Helmet were quickly dispatched from the tournament in last place by Astralis and Nemiga.

Lynn Vision went for a confidence pick on Anubis, where Sike "⁠z4kr⁠" Zhang kicked off proceedings in style with four USP headshots in the pistol round. Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov replied not long after with a 1vs3 clutch to put G2 on the board, and went on to dominate the map, posting a 1.78 rating.

Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač ended the second map with a very close rating, 1.72, on an Inferno that went the distance. It looked like Rasmus "⁠HooXi⁠" Nielsen and company had it under control going up 10-6 early on the second half, but were taken to the brink as close rounds kept their CT economy in check.

Zhe "⁠Westmelon⁠" Niu and his men fell short in the end, however, as they ran into a blender against pistols on the A site of Inferno during a crucial round in their comeback attempt.

G2 tried to take the momentum shift and run with it, but Lizhi "⁠Starry⁠" Ye got a beautiful tap to put the cherry on a 1vs3 clutch that kept his team alive and all tied up, 11-11. It wasn't enough in the end, however, as G2 held their own with two strong defenses to prevail in the 24th round, 13-11.

Lynn Vision's early exit means Chinese fans attending the playoffs at the Wuliangye Chengdu Performing Arts Centre this weekend will have to pick a foreign team to support. G2 will hope they can be one of those teams after they take on the victor of HEROIC and FURIA in the Group A lower bracket final for a chance to play in the arena.
