Brollan: "It's exhausting to go from event to event, I feel it mentally"

The Swede says MOUZ will do their best to handle their busy schedule.

Brollan admits he is unsure about his future

MOUZ claimed their first title of 2024 at ESL Pro League Season 19, but the European combine didn't have long to celebrate their success; they flew directly to Belgrade to attend BetBoom Dacha, with an appearance at IEM Dallas just around the corner.

Despite their tough schedule, Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek and company dispatched BetBoom and Virtus.pro to qualify for the playoffs and earn themselves a crucial day off on Friday.

After their win against the Dzhami "Jame" Ali-led squad, Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin joined HLTV to talk about their busy schedule, Dust2, and his future on MOUZ.

If you can't see the embed above, listen to the audio interview here.

Congrats on the win. You've made the playoffs, so how do you feel right now?

I feel pretty good, we had a really good day overall. We should have won 2-0 to be honest, but it is what it is. We played a really good game overall and we're really happy.

You demolished VP on Mirage. What happened there?

Our morale is just very strong at the moment. We have a 100% win rate on it in the last three months and we're just really confident and comfortable playing it. We're really happy that we actually got Mirage as the third map, it's a comfortable map for us overall, we know how to play and we know how to react.

This series was also your second time playing Dust2. You play Long on the map, which is a pretty hard position. How do you feel about the map currently and your position?

Overall I have never been a fan of Dust2. Playing Long, it's just pretty... If 10 flashes are not coming over, it's pretty easy to be honest. It depends on how you're performing, of course, but overall I don't really see the point of the map because it's just too random.

It's always been like that for me since day one of playing it. It could be a good map of course, I just need to play it more. I haven't played it for a long time because I had it as my permaban for two or maybe three years.

You now have a few days off before the playoffs. Looking at this tournament from the perspective of your form, is the title all you're aiming for?

Yeah, of course. We're going to want to play Spirit again because they were not at EPL and they are dropping some spots in the rankings, but I would say they're still one of the best teams, it's going to be tough.

We have been playing EPL before this and it's very exhausting to go from tournament to tournament, and I really feel it mentally. It's maybe going to be hard to reset but we're going to have some days off, so that's going to be nice for us.

It's going to be tough overall because we have such a tight schedule at the moment with all of the tournaments and stuff, and we will just try to handle it well.

You talk about a tough schedule. You flew directly here from Malta, now you're here, and then you go to Dallas, a lot of tournaments for you guys. What is the energy in the camp right now?

Overall, it's always good. I think everyone has a lot of energy, of course. As I said before, maybe I am not the most energetic person, but I think we are a nice group that can hype and help each other in and out of the game. It's really nice overall.

But yeah, as I said before it's a tough schedule, but I will just try to focus on being professional. In the meantime, try to have some off time in some situations and maybe not focus 100% on it [CS].

For you personally, you're officially still on loan from NIP. Has there been any change in terms of your permanent signing for MOUZ or anything like that?

I can't talk about it, but we'll see what happens next. I'm not really sure when the loan expires, to be honest.

If you keep playing like this, they don't have a choice, right?

I mean, of course. I fit in the group, they enjoy playing with me, we are number two in the world ranking and just won EPL, so I think I'm doing a great job.

It's not like he's refusing to play he's just saying it's hard which is probably true. Remember he probably spends 90% of his time practicing when he's not competing in a tournament too

Still hours and hours you have to spend concentrating, and a good organisation like Mouz will probably have lots of sitting down time where they talk about tactics, say what you need to get better at, memorizing smokes etc.

actually, i believe broky last time says, they come to tournament without any practice. I agree with fact they putted a lot hours before they become pro players, but after that, they probably rarely play a lot hours in day.

I think some of that might be related to flights though and having to rest for jetlag. Remember also that Broky is not Brollan and might have different routines. I'm not saying it's the most difficult job in the world but it can't be easy having to catch flights every week or so, nearly never being home, literally living out of hotel rooms, the pressure of not performing well enough etc. We can see that it's hard based on the effect it has on oBo so at least brollan is coping with it

idk, i following dota2 too, and here was same situation, "we took some break, come to tournament without any practice" and i believe they won or was second. Also, most of us was playing games at young age for 10 hours day or sometimes more. I only say that, because many pro players even cant spray properly.

> I only say that, because many pro players even cant spray properly which probably reinforces the fact that there is lots of work behind the scenes outside the server. Just look at furia who weren't allowed to see family, weren't allowed to eat meat, weren't allowed to smoke, weren't allowed to see their girlfriends, and even aren't allowed to see people in hospital (even though furia conceding this rule). I think it's probably stricter than people think, however it's still by no means a hard job and he should be appreciative

I think it was Device who said you have to play like 10 hours a day to maintain your level at the very top. These guys definitely grind like maniacs, and that does definitely become exhausting. It’s the reason you see players become a shell of their former self, because they get older, lose interest, spend less hours grinding and eventually they just can’t compete at the top level anymore.

true but professional esportler shouldn't really talk about 'tough schedules' and 'no off time' while getting manager salaries or even more imho. His hobby became his job, there's really no excuse or whining about it, maybe he should do a reality check and visit a nurse and ask her about her schedule/off time and compare their salaries.

Saying that something is difficult isn't the same as whining. And I'm sure he enjoys his job but he can also say that sometimes it's exhausting those two things aren't contradictory. And again, if you take someone who has a traditionally difficult job (such as a manual labourer) and start paying them 100k a month, does their job inherently get easier? Just because he's got an incredibly good salary doesn't mean his job is easy. You could say that he should be appreciative (which he probably is) but you don't loose your right to voice your thoughts if you're getting paid well

But he’s not whining and saying like “ooh poor me poor me I have the hardest job in the world ooh feel sorry for me” he’s just saying it’s a tough schedule and he feels the strain of it but they’re maintaining a good energy in the camp and are gonna push through. Nothing wrong with that at all.

probably an exaggeration but I'm sure they'll have very long days even if they aren't in the server for all of it. I can't remember who it was but I think it was Karrigen who said that IGLs do a huge amount of work behind the scenes that goes underappreciated. Don't think the same isn't true for players also

He is but people are allowed to tell him to stfu as well 🤷 personally I know the top teams prac more in a week than I work generally and constantly flying and yadda yadda, yea, it's probably exhausting. Just saying though, welcome to the pros and cons of being a public figure.

It's a TV show that you would know about. This TV show highlights a job where people work much longer than 24 hours on a regular basis. So when you said "By this logic there should be an amount of money that means you can work for 24 hours straight and not complain at all because money" This is an example of a job that disproves your "logic." Maybe I should have said 24/7, not 24 hours straight. There are similar shows in the UK about lobster trawling etc., but there they work for yes very long shifts but not every day of the week. Also implying they are working every single second (what I mean by "24 hours straight") is also a fallacy. Please don't take my words and bend them to mean something else next time burger :-)
