HEROIC smash Falcons to qualify for IEM Rio

NertZ got the better over his former teammates in their first meeting

HEROIC have secured the penultimate spot at IEM Rio after easing past Falcons 2-0 in the consolidation final of the Europe closed qualifier.

Falcons missed out on their first chance to qualify for Rio after falling 0-2 to Eternal Fire in the upper bracket final and didn't look particularly convincing against HEROIC, unable to hit double digits on either map of the series.

Eternal Fire qualify for IEM Rio

Damjan "⁠kyxsan⁠" Stoilkovski's side was cast down to the lower bracket after a decisive loss to Cloud9 in their opening match, but played themselves into form with a redemption run past B8, 3DMAX, and fnatic to challenge Falcons for a spot in Rio.

The match marked the first time Guy "⁠NertZ⁠" Iluz faced off against his former ENCE teammates in Marco "⁠Snappi⁠" Pfeiffer, Álvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" García, and Pavle "⁠Maden⁠" Bošković since the latter trio moved to the Saudi organization, with the Israeli rifler playfully stating on X that he was "gonna fuck these traitors" after the matchup was set.

He fulfilled that promise at the start of the series, powering HEROIC to a 7-5 lead on the T side of Mirage with a 15-8 K-D and 127.8 ADR. Falcons won both pistols on the map and used the second to briefly take the lead, but struggled to break through the defenses once guns came up as HEROIC closed out their pick, 13-9.

Falcons fared even worse on their pick of Dust2, a string of four rounds offering little salvation in opposition to another stalwart CT side from HEROIC, this time with Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov leading the way, with the game being brought to a swift close after the side swap.
