Media: NiKo to join Falcons after Shanghai Major

Falcons are reportedly due to make their second attempt for NiKo stick after failing the first in late 2023.

NiKo's four-year spell with G2 could be at an end

G2 superstar Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač is on course to joining Falcons after the ongoing season concludes at the Perfect World Shanghai Major, multiple reports suggest.

French streamer and leaker Sebastien "⁠KRL⁠" Perez first said on Saturday that G2 and Falcons reached an agreement to transfer the Bosnian at the beginning of 2025 and that the deal only hinged on a signature from NiKo.

A Sheep Esports report followed two days later with the information that the agreement was accepted on Monday and that the transfer is worth between $1 to $1.2 million. It also says that NiKo plans to accept a three-year contract with Falcons starting on January 1.

This is the second time that Falcons are after NiKo. When the Saudi Arabian organization's ambitious new roster was being built at the end of 2023, the Bosnian was all but confirmed to join the likes of Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif and Marco "⁠Snappi⁠" Pfeiffer on the roster, until he decided to stay with G2 for the 2024 season in a last-minute U-turn.

After failing to land the No. 2 player of 2023, Falcons have struggled to make good on the high ambitions they set after landing Magisk and Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen from Vitality in a bid to create a new Counter-Strike superpower.

Their best result in 2024 remains a top-four finish at IEM Katowice from the beginning of the year, when Falcons still featured Mohammad "⁠BOROS⁠" Malhas on the roster.

The Jordanian was replaced on the team by Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen just two months later in the aftermath of their failure to qualify for PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen, but the change has done little to improve their results.

In their five months with the 31-year-old, Falcons failed to make it to the playoffs at three consecutive Big Events and only achieved modest success in smaller tournaments with a top-four finish at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade and second place at ESL Challenger Jönköping.

Falcons are currently deep into their campaign at the second edition of BetBoom Dacha Belgrade, having just qualified for the playoffs. They're also playing for a spot at IEM Rio in the European closed qualifier, which runs concurrently with the event taking place in Serbia.

G2 and Falcons declined to comment on the matter after being contacted by HLTV.

I don't have inside information, it's more a "I'm in Denial". Realistically, NiKo is only going to Falcons if they have agreed to doing further signings. After buying a world rank #2 trio at the time, just to bench them so shortly after, it would hurt CS badly if a team is just able to piss out money like that.

If I were NiKo I would be more concerned about my legacy than chasing the bag at this point. I do not have the potential that NiKo has, almost none does. Saying that Snax isn't a good move is coping, cause you can't blame anyone else due to "firepower". If not to Snax, they wouldn't even beat Spirit on EWC, but people will call him bad, cause he is relatively new to this role and had bad T-side% with GamerLegion. Do an eye-test instead, focus specifically on mid-round calls and you will understand that he isn't a problem

Then you have no knowledge about CS. Hooxi, gla1ve or any other "tactical" IGL would force tactics against worse teams like Astralis or Pain and make G2 crumble by overcomplicating rounds without map control. Snax has many good ideas mid-round, often plays contact to use their firepower and not overcomplicate things, often lurks himself too and generally makes good decisions based on information on the map. I focused specifically on his calls during his time on G2 and he's the right man for the job. The whole -Snax propaganda is just blaming IGL for his team lacking of communication, m0NESY overpeeking in most important duels and throwing CT rounds, while Snax is anchoring completely different site. Hope that Hooxi stands-in for any tournament soon, so people will appreciate Snax's IGL'ing.

No one who tries to win a major, or even just big tournaments, would leave their T1 team to join Falcons, so if he goes he doesn't care about trophies anymore and instead will try to get as much money out of the rest of his career as possible.

My issue with this is that G2 is finally solid team and now he leaves? Also i am kinda used to m0nesy + niko. Would be weird without this duo.
