The Boombl4-led squad traversed the 32-team single-elimination bracket to secure their spot in the event.

Cloud9 beat Zero Tenacity in the grand final

Cloud9 have qualified for Thunderpick World Championship 2024 after beating Zero Tenacity in the final of the second European closed qualifier with a 2-1 scoreline (Anubis 13-10, Dust2 13-16, Inferno 13-11).

The win follows a turbulent start for the majority-Russian squad, who failed to hit the ground running after coming together during the summer break.

Cloud9 finished last at BLAST Fall Groups and the Showdown but recently qualified for the Perfect World Shanghai Major Europe RMR following wins against Johnny Speeds, Passion UA, and 9 Pandas in the closed qualifier.

Cloud9's road to the Thunderpick World Championship was complicated, as they played four three-map series to secure their spot. The majority-Russian squad began the tournament with their only 2-0 win against Insilio before fighting back from 0-1 deficits against GamerLegion, ALTERNATE aTTaX, and BetBoom to reach the grand final against Zero Tenacity.

The qualification match was another close affair, with Cloud9 taking the series lead after an impactful Kaisar "⁠ICY⁠" Faiznurov performance on the Anubis CT side. Zero Tenacity fought back and took Dust2 in overtime, however, which meant an Inferno decider was needed.

Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov and company put together an imperious 9-3 T side on the final map but had trouble closing it out, with Timofey "⁠interz⁠" Yakushin's 1v2 clutch enough to get them over the line in a 13-11 victory.

Cloud9 are the sixth team to qualify for the 16-team online event, which will culminate in a four-team $750,000 LAN final at a yet undisclosed location. The remaining ten spots for the event will be filled via direct invites.
