Wildcard and 9z one win away from the Major

A series victory separates the two teams from a coveted spot at the Perfect World Shanghai Major.

Halfway through the second round at the Americas RMR, 9z and Wildcard have now clinched their second victories in the Swiss group and ensured multiple opportunities to qualify for the Perfect World Shanghai Major.

Wildcard pulled off two upsets on the way, first taking down Liquid in a comeback from an 8-12 deficit on Anubis before beating paiN on Nuke.

Peter "⁠stanislaw⁠" Jarguz's men went toe-to-toe against the Brazilians in the second half of the day in a chaotic game. Both teams won a couple of ecos in the tug-of-war, and it seemed as if Wildcard's 3v5 throw in one of them in round 19 would turn the tide in paiN's favor, but Love "⁠phzy⁠" Smidebrant's aggressive AWPing and a crucial Aran "⁠Sonic⁠" Groesbeek double in the final round ensured Wildcard's second victory.

For a 9z squad that headed into the Americas RMR on shaky ground, it has been a surprisingly smooth road so far.

Nicolás "⁠buda⁠" Kramer's squad put on a show in their aggressive CT sides on Dust2 against RED Canids and on Ancient against Legacy, winning 19 out of the 20 rounds they played on the defensive sides.

They, too, head into round three with a bit of pressure off their shoulders as they have three chances to qualify for the Perfect World Shanghai Major, and their first will be in a round that will include neither of the two big favorites, Liquid and FURIA.
