The core of Imperial fe has been denied a LAN trophy for the first time since coming together on Nigma Galaxy.
FURIA fe have secured victory at Rainhas do Clutch FERJEE 2024 Finals in front of a home crowd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, taking down heavyweights Imperial Valkyries in a tightly-contested three-map affair. This result comes just a week after Imperial Valkyries had previously bested FURIA fe in the grand finals of ESL Impact League Season 6 Finals.
For the core of Imperial Valkyries, this placing marks the first time since their inception on Nigma Galaxy that the team has secured anything less than first place at a LAN event, having previously dominated eight consecutive ESL Impact LAN titles under both banners.
Imperial Valkyries player Zainab "zAAz" Turkie shared her frustration following the close loss, stating that the series was "the most unfair match I have ever played in my career so far," contending that the Brazilian crowd helped give away information to FURIA fe in key rounds.
With this win, FURIA fe have now eclipsed Imperial Valkyries in the Valve rankings as the top-ranked women's team, moving from #37 in the world to #26, while Imperial Valkyries now sit at #27.
The grand final of the four-team Rio event kicked off on FURIA fe's map pick of Nuke, where Imperial Valkyries scored a hot start to the series with a dominant 13-4 win. Victoria "tory" Kazieva's troops struggled to maintain the same performance on their own pick of Dust2, faltering in overtime 14-16 to allow the series to the Ancient decider.
Despite an impressive showing from zAAz on Ancient, who posted a 1.56 rating on the map, Imperial Valkyries were unable to get it over the line in the end, as FURIA fe came out on top 13-11 to secure the event win and the $10,339 grand prize along with it.
