Perfect World Shanghai Major Elimination Stage opening round set

The top-seeded G2 will face The MongolZ in the opening round.

The MongolZ are the top seed from the Opening Stage teams

The Perfect World Shanghai Major's Elimination Stage opening round match-ups are set following the conclusion of the Opening Stage.

The top eight teams were seeded by their pre-event ranking, while the rest were seeded based on their qualification in the Opening Stage.

The top seed from the RMR will face the top seed from the Opening Stage, so G2 will face The MongolZ. The two second seeds will face each other, and the two thirds, and so on.

The seeding is:

Like in the Major's Opening Stage, the Elimination Stage will start with best-of-ones in the opening round, as well as in the 1-0, 0-1, and 1-1 pools. Best-of-threes will then take over in elimination, progression, and decider matches. The top eight teams progress to the playoffs, and the bottom eight go home.

The opening match-ups are:

hm IDK, The Mongolz sounds to be the toughest team to play against in this round. G2 needs to be aware of it, definetly won't be an easy match for them.

Due to the way Buchholz works, this seeding (in theory) gives better system correction. That is to say you get a better picture of who is the best by playing closer matches. In practice, it should reduce the chances of a match like FaZe-Na`Vi in an elimination 2-2 game, as happened in Paris, because all of the good teams are likely to have good Buchholz scores. EDIT: Where this system falls down is the assumption that (e.g.) 'Seed 8' is actually the 8th best team.

Its looks good in theory but what stops good teams like the Mongolz throwing games in the opening stage to get 3DMAX ? Competitive integrity out of the window.

because even if they get 3dmax after they can just either lose to 3dmax (cuz they showed they can upset other teams even in bo3) or just get matched to another good team later cuz of bo1 upsets. giving away games in a swiss stage is always dumb if you are doing it intentionally. especially with this system where the better teams should advance cuz they get good seeding

You would get an easier matchup yea in the first round but then later on you will keep getting all the very good teams so better to play ur first round against a better opponent in a Bo1 to keep having a good bucholz score

It's so insane to me that 1st plays 9th and not 16th. Imagine NBA (or any major league) playoffs pairing 1st v 5th instead.

Strategic approach to majors when being top 3-6 team is more favorable and ending with 3-2 is better than with 3-0

great matchups. I like this idea

This seeding is bad because it punishes the best teams whereas in normal seeding they should be rewarded for being the best. Now you get to play a top 10 team as a top 1-2 team, which are still very good. Meanwhile, the teams from 5th onward almost guaranteed get "flukers" or not that great teams. And considering it's BO1, it's setting up the top teams to be upset, and then to have a much harder time qualifying. Completely stupid. Regards
