The Russian IGL/AWPer has been removed from the starting lineup after an underwhelming season.

Jame is ending a five-year association with Virtus.pro

Virtus.pro have moved longtime team member Dzhami "⁠Jame⁠" Ali to the bench, the Russian organization announced on Wednesday. The decision comes in the wake of the team's disappointing season, which culminated in an Opening Stage exit at the Shanghai Major.

In a statement, Virtus.pro CEO Nikolai Petrossian admitted that changes were "inevitable" after the Chinese tournament.

"The discussions were long, comprehensive, and very difficult," he said. "Ultimately, together with the players and coach, we concluded that at this stage, Jame would not be able to combine the two key roles in the roster, IGL and AWP, and that the best solution would be to bench him and calmly consider all available options for both the good of our team and Jame's personal prospects."

Jame has been on Virtus.pro's books since December 2019, when the Russian organization acquired the AVANGAR roster and parted ways with its Polish lineup.

He guided Virtus.pro to victory in Flashpoint 2 and cs_summit 7 during the online era. And at the end of 2022, he led Outsiders — a neutral name after several tournament organizers banned Virtus.pro because of their apparent ties to the Russian government — to the IEM Rio Major title in an unlikely run.

However, the Russian team would not be able to live up to the expectations set for them after the Rio campaign. Virtus.pro picked up three LAN trophies in 2023, albeit all from tier-two events (FiReLEAGUE Battle and the ESL Challenger stops in Katowice and Atlanta) and reached the finals at PARI Dunav Party and BetBoom Dacha. Still, results took a turn for the worse in 2024, even after the blockbuster signing of Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov in April.

The second half of the season was very turbulent for Virtus.pro. The team changed coaches twice — initially replacing Dastan "⁠dastan⁠" Akbayev with Andrey "⁠Xoma⁠" Mironenko before promoting analyst Pavel "⁠PASHANOJ⁠" Legostaev to a head coach role — in the hope of closing out the season strongly.

Jame won the IEM Rio Major while with the Russian team

Virtus.pro began their RMR campaign with a shocking loss to Passion UA but bounced back swiftly with victories over TSM, 9 Pandas and Sashi. Their frailties were then laid bare in the Opening Stage of the Major, where they were sent packing with a 1-3 record following losses to MIBR, BIG and Wildcard.

A two-time HLTV Top 20 Player, Jame is now open to offers to continue his career.

"I want to express my immense gratitude to everyone at Virtus.pro, where I spent so many unforgettable years!" he said in a statement.

"It has been the most successful period of my career, during which I learned a lot, met many interesting people, and won significant trophies."

The major winning lineup was worse in terms of firepower than the current lineup. There are no more excuses for Jame. Teams have learned to counter his strats but he couldn't come up with anything new. He is a decent AWPer but his IGL'ing is stuck in the past.

naw, vp brought electronic in to ''fix'' the issues they were already having, their performance was bad. The issue is electronic doesnt want to play around james awp like its 2018 but jame does, thats literally where their issues come from. Electronic calls some ct rounds, jame calls rest of the game, but jame still wants the whole game to revolve around his awp and saving the awp, electronic wants to play ''normal'' cs. people hate him way too much. Well, C9 lost sh1ro right after they signed electronic. Hobbit became old. C9 created a new lineup, that is on paper much weaker than VP. But they are doing just as bad as VP. Its not like VP are doing that much better with elec, that C9 without elec. Elec IGLs Na'Vi - Na'Vi becomes T2 and later almost disbands. Elec IGLs C9 - C9 almost disbands. Elec IGLs VP - VP is starting to disband. You have to be literally delusional to assume, that elec has nothing to do with it

The problem is the rest of the squad I am calling this: fame, flit and norbert are too used to rely only on Jame’s set-piece play so they don’t need to think too much. With addition of electronic, there are now different elements that forced every player to think what to do next, then exposed their weaknesses in poor play-making ability.

In Na'Vi, elec had the best coach in CS, and still couldn't do shit. Na'Vi were better before elec IGLed Na'Vi. And they are much better now, after elec left. C9 were doing much better before elec joined. They are doing just as bad as VP, having significantly weaker lineup. VP were doing much better before elec joined. And now they are much worse. Elec is a bane of CIS. Not so long ago, there were at least 3 teams in tier1-2 from CIS, able to compete. But when elec wanted to IGL, there is now only Spirit.

Kind of unexpected as it is like removing cadian from heroic? I hope that electronic won’t move to igl now but it is the most likely scenario for sure. Even if he has to drop down to a T2 CIS team, there's so much talent out there I'm absolutely certain he'll be able to get a team that can qualify to majors at a minimum. Meanwhile, what do you even do if you're VP? If you're committing to the electroNic IGL, it's an absolute must to get an agressive AWP. The team is just too passive. I also think replacing n0rb3r7 with Perfecto would be ideal. Overall, I just don't see this VP team doing anything special. I think a shuffle between C9 and VP needs to happen.

James gameplan always involved him having a great impact. After his performance dropped with CS2 he tried to force back his stats by sacrificing his mates performances, with way less success than before. I like Jame, so it would be a shame to see him fall to tier 2-3 CIS hell, but in my opinion his biggest chances are at 9Pandas and Aurora to build up a new AVANGAR like team

When they benched Art from furia I was upset, I feel the same now that benched Jame from VP. Cs got less interesting buy removing the igls that pushed timings to their limits. If every team is playing the same tempo, there is a lot less to antistrat, and the way people antistrat remains mostly the same.

Thank god I never have to care about Virtus Freaking Pro anymore. I loved watching Jame. Never missed a VP game. It was like a whole vent for me when they played. Got so disappointing toward the end. Like it just made me feel shitty watching Electronic push his 100th smoke looking the wrong way, losing these stupid agro plays he threw in, the rest of the riflers falling off a cliff.. and Jame just looking out of place trying to play intelligent CS in a dumb system. I'm so glad to be done with this team lol. I will never have the shame of chearing for VP again. Hope Jame goes on to do something cool. Liquid -ultimate or even Spirit -Chopper. Imagine Jame using Yekinder again, or even Donk... haha just a dream for me but who knows.

Oh the joy of being a fan of players instead of teams. I’ll still pull for fame and norbert but will not be watching. Hopefully Jame goes somewhere that’s FINALLY a contender. I also never missed a game and it was exhausting, especially this major. Kind of glad VP was eliminated early. It saved my sleep schedule and now Jame isn’t stuck there.

I mean he's young enough still and the game is his life, he's got his YT channel which I would watch if I spoke a word of RUssian lol. I think he will definitely find a good place to go and I'll be happy to watch. I also love the rest of VP - Big bad norbz baby, Fame and fl1t too.. great kids, wish them the best.
