Skyesports downscale plans for 2025 circuit

The tournament organizer has moved from three planned tier-one events to only one.

Skyesports has significantly downscaled their plans

Skyesports has unveiled an updated set of plans for their 2025 circuit, which see the organizer move from three planned tier-one events to only one and reduce the prize pool for said event from $500,000 to $350,000. Valve added the event to their "exception list," allowing Skyesports to change the prize pool and format.

Furthermore, Skyesports Souvenir will become an "open-for-all India-only ranked event." The event was previously cancelled by Skyesports. The announcement also stated they would host another, as of yet unannounced, tier-two event later in the year.

Skyesports Souvenir 2025 cancelled

The single tier-one event hosted will be Skyesports Masters, and will take place November 10-16. 18 teams will receive invites via VRS, with two wildcard invites. The top four VRS teams head straight to the main event, whilst the remaining 16 compete in an online closed qualifier.

The closed qualifier will see teams compete in a Swiss-style format, with the top four teams proceeding to the main event. The main event will split the eight teams into two groups, where a league-style group stage will send the top two teams from each group to a double-elimination playoff bracket.

Skyesports pointed to long-term sustainability as the main reason for the changes to their circuit. "These changes, while scaled back from our original announcement, reflect our strategic re-alignment to long-term sustainability at Skyesports, while ensuring we continue hosting large-scale, global events."

This is not the first time the organizer has experienced issues hosting events. Skyesports Masters 2024 was moved from LAN to online due to the Indian General Election making it "extremely challenging to obtain the necessary approvals for hosting a large-scale on-ground event."

Nothing new. No Tier one team is going to attend this tournament unless you prove that you can hold tier 2 tournaments properly.

Actually good they are biting the Bullet and downscaling, I still think they can be beneficial to the ecosystem with T2 and asian/indian events but them thinking they can attract T1 teams after all their fuck ups is just dumb. I hope they are not expecting big names at their only T1 event, may as well have made it T2 as well but these are good changes

Their original partner team event was fairly successful: hltv.org/events/7266/skyesports-masters-.. But news articles later on revealed that several teams and players remained unpaid for a long time after the event ended. I'm not sure what the current status is.

I see you hating in every India thread. When's the last time Pakistan CS was relevant (other than in real life lmao)? Also this isn't something you should be cheering about, Asia is a developing scene so any country taking an L is an L for the entire scene.

scandals are more L than not having events. we play only CT irl... there are usually T's that come from elsewhere. These T's are predominantly from the atlantic region. They come to this region and cause problems of all sorts. Sometimes I wonder why its so difficult for them to just stay at home, why must they go to every region in the world ........... truly strange.

As far as Valve's classification goes it mainly has to do with invites and the timeline for announcing details: Tier 1 events invite the highest ranked teams and can only filter invites by the 3 official regions (AMER, ASIA, EURO). The event also has to be announced at least a year in advance. Tier 2 events can select a lower ranking to start invites at (no higher than rank 9 though) to invite teams and can add other criteria to invites, such as countries and regions. Tier 2 events only have to announce 2 months in advance. Source: github.com/ValveSoftware/counter-strike_..
