In search of VRS points, NIP sign up for Fragadelphia Vegas

The European team will travel to the United States to compete at the $10,000 tournament.

NIP set to attend their first LAN event

Ninjas in Pyjamas have joined the list of teams signed up for Fragadelphia's next event, which will take place in Las Vegas from April 25-27 as part of LVL UP EXPO.

This will be the second large-scale LAN event that Fragadelphia will run in 2025 following the conclusion of Fragadelphia Block, which saw BLUEJAYS soar in Valve's Global Standings after beating Marsborne in the final.

The former BOSS squad moved up 37 places to 30th in the world after collecting nearly 200 points from their LAN victory.

Ninjas in Pyjamas signed up for the North American event hoping for a similar ranking boost. Currently ranked 184th in the world as per the VRS, they must go through open qualifiers to reach large LAN and online tournaments as they are far from the places that would earn them regular invites.

The team played five CCT closed qualifiers with Audric "JACKZ" Jug as a stand-in in order to meet the wildcard invite criterion, which required that a roster had at least three players who had been in the top eight in Valve's Global Standings at any point in the previous 12 months.

Ninjas in Pyjamas could not make it out of the closed qualifiers, losing eight of the 14 matches they played with JACKZ. And a recent rule reducing the amount of time players had to be in the top eight from 12 to six months meant that Ninjas in Pyjamas were no longer eligible for wildcard invites.

JACKZ leaves NIP after wildcard eligibility expires

With $10,000 on the line, Frag x LVLUP EXPO will have no team cap. Other standout registered teams for the event include NRG, BLUEJAYS, FlyQuest RED and Ghost. Signups are open until April 11 on the event's website.

People are flaming them but its pretty cool for Smaller LANs to have people travelling to them to get VRS points Also funny None of the big na teams that always "Support The Local scene" that never show up to any of the fragadelphia's (col/liquid/m80)

Even more so, 2 of m80 players under a tweet talking about how local tournaments have more power than ever after Bluejays rise replied with something like "It's awful. While we try to compete internationally someone can just farm top 100+ teams". Well, who the fuck is stopping you? Qualifiers you play are online, play them from the practice room or something while "farming top 100+ teams".

Probably falls under that "If Tournament Operator defines a Tournament as a Tier 2 Tournament, the following rules shall apply: 3.8.1 The Tournament Operator may invite entirely by one or more Open Qualifiers." Since they are not inviting them, they are signing up themselves in an open system, basically making a whole tournament like an open qualifier. Or maybe they have an exception granted.

The Italian CS scene was never very strong and things got worse in 2005 when they created an anti-terrorism law that made it difficult to open Wi-Fi hotspots, which was only completely repealed in 2012. That's why the internet was rubbish and the esports scene in general is weak in Italy. After the launch of Valorant, the few Italian professional CS players migrated to it and currently Italian professional CS is non-existent and the Italian lobbies are dominated by Eastern European immigrants.

You are saying as if NiP victory there is secured. NRG are there, for example. NiP is not exactly a strong team. They can't qualify to CCT. It's a chance to play against EU team for NA teams that never qualify anywhere, even if that EU team is NiP. In fact, maybe it's better for them that it's NiP and not them qualifying right into Spirit or Vitality as their first exposure to international play. It also gets viewers for the tournament. It's good for everyone. And if they want it to be NA only event: they can filter and use VRS invites instead of sign up system.

Honestly, having one EU team comes to NA for one event is not bad thing for the region. I even prefer that compared to Liquid who is a NA team just to qualify for the major.

Tbf, it is a good stunt for fragdelphia. People will watch the match with the hope to see NIP failing. It had a "decent" team from EU in a NA t3 LAN. NA need more reps against proper teams. Even if NIP is pretty weak, it is already better than half of NA teams. I don't see the problem, honestly.

ANY team can sign up for this. I see no issues as this is an open event. This is what N/A needs. Teams traveling to the US to play. More teams will want to attend that are located in the US just to try and play NIP. Remember, CPL winter and summer use to be held in Texas and that brought all the teams.
