Complexity qualify for PGL Bucharest

Only two spots at the $1.25 million studio event are undecided following the conclusion of the North American qualifier.

Complexity have secured a spot at PGL Bucharest following a dominant run through the North American closed qualifier over the past week.

Johnny "JT" Theodosiou and company were one of the two biggest favorites to win the single spot on offer in the 32-team qualifier. They beat the other, Wildcard, in a 3-0 grand final affair to conclude a campaign in which they only lost one map in six series.

Complexity join the likes of G2, FaZe and Eternal Fire for a chance to fight for the lion's share of a $1.25 million prize pool. The event will take place in PGL's studios in the Romanian capital from April 5-13.

Only two spots are left to be determined in European and South American qualifiers after 12 teams received direct invites from the global ranking and Rare Atom won the Asian LAN qualifier.

The two remaining qualifiers have now reached the playoffs stage, with HEROIC, BetBoom, OG and Betclic in the running in Europe and 9z, Legacy, Solid and Flamengo in South America.

I dunno I think complexity has no money for players and no appeal to decent free agents. They were a decent contender with elige but I don’t see another player of that caliber wanting to go anywhere near complexity

Not really considering this was played in NA. Look at their competition in this qualifier lol. Yea complexity would most likely be humbled in Europe but so would all these other teams

Maybe, but not by much. If you put complexity and wildcard against each other on LAN you don’t know who’s going to win because they are both kinda mid

Nah I disagree, Wildcard actually put up pretty decent cs imo, Complexity look lost a lot of the time almost like they have 0 faith in themselves when it comes to actual duels etc.

col still being a top 2 NA team says more about the state of NA than it says about themselves

Unironically this might be near the worst it's ever been, at least in most people's memory. Zero NA teams even scratching top 15, all of our best players (basically all of them aging and in the latter half of their careers) spread on different teams. Maybe pre 2015 was worse, but basically my hope is in m80 and col if they can somehow get their shit together, but they've just lost their coach so I don't even know where they're really going next.

it's much better than how it was 2021-2022 tbf. 2021 was so ass that you had people sleeping during major qualifying matches and brazilians smurfing. now although there isn't a real tier 1 team (liquid doesn't count) i wouldn't say there's a huge gap between NA top tiers and NA tier 2s or whatever

Do you even watch the scene? NA is becoming stronger because the t2 teams are actually starting to get salaried and they’re improving. Lake and Jba are proof that NA still has young prospects. Not to mention LANs are finally starting to come back. The fact that we’re having home soil LANs and teams are getting vrs for it is massive itself. If it keeps going at this pace then NA will be back to a strong region.

Admittedly I don't follow it extremely closely, but I have heard generally about the scene improving. My main issue is a lot of the tier 2 teams have "been improving" for a while, but if there isn't really a tier 1 NA scene for them to funnel into, then where do they actually go? The best majority NA teams are M80 and col. Both these teams are pretty capped at where they are now, and both aren't likely to make too many changes, unless swisher gets benched or whatever. Wildcard and Liquid are "based" in NA but are majority international. Even last year with complexity, they could at least make a decent run at an EPL and beat a few good teams. I don't know if either col or M80 could really do that, maybe M80 if they get their shit together. And yes it's true that their is some new talent out there, it's why I held my tongue on saying that all of our talent is old and just said that most of them are, but again, they're spread onto other teams. It's cool to see jba or Lake or even Malbs pop off but when they're all on separate teams it's kinda sad. We should have a full, or at least majority NA team that can actually make deep runs, and the closest we have to that is M80 who couldn't even make it out of the first stage of EPL. If they can't do it, we're going to be in for a rough year. Maybe it's a transition year for us, but we'll have to see.

It’s 100% transition state for NACS. VRS being a thing I think will actually help NA because it incentivizes tournaments. As for there being a top NA team for our talent to naturally go to— that’s not necessary in my opinion. It’s all about the level of competition. We just need the teams that’s we do have to keep playing, more orgs to salary teams, and our teams getting consistent international experience. If that happens, then the general level of NA will rise steadily. People who think NA is gonna be back on top within a year are delusional. Give it a couple years and I think we will see some changes. The main issue before was that since there wasn’t that much orgs to salary t2 teams in NA, then a bunch of our talent either made mixes to try and get picked up (they did if they were lucky but most likely not for long) or they just switched to valorant to make a living. As a result, prospects were coming in and out of the scene, and honestly I can’t blame them for quitting early because the consistency of chances just wasn’t there. I mean look at Getting Info. One of the better teams in NA and it’s just a mix with no org. It’s a grind, but NA is slowly on the come up. M80 and wildcard doing decent internationally is no fluke but instead proof of this. M80 literally lost their star rifler in malbs, replaced him with an unproven t2 NA fragger, and really haven’t lost a step. It’s only on the up from here as long as there’s no baboonery involved (it’s NA don’t hold your breath)

I am just trying to guess, too lazy to check: teams that overtook them (also) won versus "stronger" teams?

Ye i guess my question is kind of stupid actually, because it only shows the placement before and after the tournament but it doesnt mean the other teams didnt play in other tournaments so it makes sense i guess. However the teams above them like tyloo and m80 shouldnt really get points yet cuz epl didnt finish no? And i also find it stupid because they actually lost points not just rank, so how did they lose points if they beat everyone, while wildcard gained points despite being higher rank and losing to col while they beat roughly the same level low rank teams in the groups Edit: and btw col also beat bluejays who were 3rd highest at #30, unlike wildcard who beat nouns, i am very confused as to why there was point deduction, the rank difference i can understand

Once again it's just a guess: point decay? edit: results decay to be more exact, some tournament that Complexity might have gotten a ton of points in the past might have lost its relevancy in the points.
