The Frenchman has now overtaken s1mple in offline Most Valuable Player awards.

Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut has been awarded his 23rd HLTV x 1XBET Most Valuable Player award after shining throughout BLAST Open Lisbon.

It's his third MVP in three events, after IEM Katowice and ESL Pro League Season 21, as the Frenchman kicks off 2025 with a bang.

It also means he moves to 17 LAN MVPs, 16 of them coming at Big Events, to beat Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev's offline record.

Big events weren't really a thing until after GTR started to drop off, 2012 only having two, 2013 only having two (including the first Major) and 2014's only three big events were the three Major's that year. This is obviously due to the game still sort of being in it's infancy when it came to large-scale tournaments, arenas, competition, prize-pools, etc... As important as Counter-Strike is for esports, esports was still relatively a new thing back when games like 1.6, Quake, UE and the like first launched and towards the end of 1.6's life, esports was entering a new chapter of life in terms of viewership, TO's, sponsorship deals and aided by CS:GO. As the game began to evolve, more and more big corporation TO's put their hat in the ring for big events, and now we have more than ever. Back when GTR ruled the roost, though? Sadly not that many.

The most ridiculous thing about that whining of s1mple's was that he actually didn't even fact check what he's saying, stating that ZywOo had 3-4 RMR MVPs, when in fact he only had 2 and s1mple has 1 himself. And HLTV were actually somewhat right in not giving MVPs for CIS RMRs because even in 2021, we only had, at the very most, 4 good CIS teams, and even that is a stretch, because Spirit faded quickly after that IEM Katowice run and VP were very inconsistent

Donk's aim maybe better. And he's amazing ngl! But zywoo has it all. aim + gamesense, and most importantly, the ability to clutch since day 1. Maybe through time but having the clutch gene is inate. You have to be truly born with it just like in any sport. Though donk does it sometimes it not as impactful as zywoo's clutches tbh.

I think only donk and s1mple could feasibly break it if we look at sole potential candidates (I don't see m0NESY personally toppling donk in MVP's). Otherwise yeah, if it's years that it takes, then how many years can ZywOo make it is the question.
