Seven teams replaced at YaLLa Compass despite move to online

Aurora and Astralis were among the teams to withdraw after the tournament was moved online due to its clash with the Major Regional Qualifiers.

After opting to skip IEM Melbourne, Aurora have also withdrawn from YaLLa Compass

The organizers of YaLLa Compass Qatar have announced the updated list of teams for the tournament, which shows that seven teams have opted to withdraw and had to be replaced.

Some replacements were to be expected due to the half of the invited or qualified teams also taking part in the BLAST.tv Austin Major Regional Qualifiers, whose scheduling clash with the event ultimately caused it to be moved online and its prizepool to be reduced from $600,000 to $300,000.

YaLLa moves Compass Qatar from LAN to online

Astralis and Complexity withdrew from the event after they barely missed out on a direct invite to the Major, while Aurora, 3DMAX, Virtus.pro, paiN and MIBR also opted not to take part after the move online despite no direct scheduling clash.

Out of those, Aurora are the only team who have nothing to play in the immediate future. The Turkish side, who recently transferred under the new banner from Eternal Fire, also withdrew from IEM Melbourne, which starts two days following the conclusion of YaLLa Compass.

Meanwhile, some teams who either qualified or were invited as the replacement and are also playing in the European MRQ, namely BetBoom, Nemiga, ENCE, Metizport and 9 Pandas, have decided to participate in both.

The final team list for YaLLa Compass Qatar, which will take place from April 16-19, looks as follows:

They are lower than all of the replacement teams as far as I can see even now (aside from like GTZ, but they are invited from closed qualifier, not from VRS) + it's March VRS most likely

would say: - top 10 teams are T1 - teams from 10 -20 are T2 - teams from 20-50 are T3 So This is a T3 event right?

What a shame.. Many of the replaced teams could use another LAN in their calendar. But now they aren't even gonna compete in this tournament online.

It is pretty big prizepool for online tournament in EU. The best we have here rn is CCT with 22k for the first place and only awarding top 8 teams.

300k small men? Teams that win CCT's with 20-25k prizepool get a huge boost in points, this tournament has 150k for winner (or 75k if you don't count club share)

Well, I mean, they can remove MRQ and just invite all teams to the major from VRS if you really want to. Having MRQs on LAN wouldn't have helped with that tournament being LAN at all.

Valve should've announced the date for the MRQs earlier (in accordance with their own tournament operation rules) so TOs didn't have to just guess and accidentally overlap with them.

I'm pretty sure Blast is the organizer and they announced the dates hltv.org/news/40843/blast-announce-austi..

Other tier 1 tournaments need to announce either 1 or 2 years in advance, can't remember which. YaLLa is considered a tier 1 tournament according to Valve's rules, so they had to set their dates way before they had any idea where the MRQs were gonna land.

So, what exactly you suggest here? Cancel the major because Blast didn't announced the qualifier dates in time, which ended up interfiering with Yalla? Also, I still think Yalla expected more tier-1 teams to show up instead of teams that didn't make it to major yet. Also, originally Yalla had different dates, as seen here, for example. hltv.org/news/40644/yalla-compass-to-rem.. The original dates were 3 days after MRQs. Edit: nvm, I'm blind, it's dates for Qatar 2026, the 2025 were announced in September hltv.org/news/39773/yalla-reveal-2025-ev..

The only sound and reasonable explanations for such withdrawal of all top 15 VRS teams: -it gone online - while there are teams that have bad reputation there is no way to prevent possible cheating allegations and etc. as would be possible offline; -the format - group stage b01 dogfight is an easy way to randomly lose VRS points and to gift them to a no-name-team, in online it feels so much worse than if it would be offline so easy and safe decision YaLLa screwed up all round just due to dates - no top 20 competition, no LAN, gifting 300K prize pool to top 30-40 teams, wonder if they care for sponsorship? In any case, sad to see that T1 teams dodging it and there is no way to reschedule Compass event and MRQ to keep it LAN

Most of the teams that decided play this event either relatively low in rankings and have now golden opportunity to get points or teams that will use this event as prac for MRQ and get some points to VRS.
