Valve releases IEM Cologne and EWC invite-deciding June ranking update

NIP earned an invite to Cologne after impressing in Astana.

Valve has released the June update for its Regional Standings, which will be used to determine the 24 Global invites for IEM Cologne and 15 Global invites for the Esports World Cup.

The German tournament, running from July 23 - August 3, will be the second tier-one event after the summer tournament break and will feature a near-identical pool of teams to IEM Katowice if all teams accept their invitations.

Only three would be different at ESL's second flagship event, with B8, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and TYLOO filling the spots occupied by Imperial Valkyries, SAW, and Wildcard at Katowice.

Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer's side would play at their second Big Event in 2025 after ending a labored climb up the rankings with a quarter-final finish at PGL Astana, while Aurora's consistent top finishes earned them a top-eight invite to the main event (and GamerLegion just missed out from pipping Natus Vincere for a Stage 2 spot by 12 points).

The 15 Global invites for the Esports World Cup will also be distributed by this ranking, with Virtus.pro the last in line for an invite. TYLOO round out the team list as the sole qualified side after winning Hero Esports Asian Champions League.

Below you can find the Global standings up to the 30th spot after the June 2 update.

Explainer: The table below showcases the teams' standing in each sub-factor of the VRS: Bounty collected (BCOL), Bounty offered (BOFF), Opponent network (NETW), LAN wins (LANW) and the final head-to-head adjustment (H2H). Values in bold represent the top five earners in each factor.

The VRS formula begins with 400 base points, which are spread among the first four categories in our table so that they add up to the total.

It doesn't actually say here github.com/ValveSoftware/counter-strike_.. but they dive into it in the individual team pages. This is from Vitality's page. "Final Rank Value: 2124.3 Final Rank Value (2124.3) = Starting Rank Value (2000.0) + Head To Head Adjustments (124.3) Starting Rank Value To figure out a rosters's Starting Rank Value, first take the average of these four factors: Bounty Offered: 1.0001 Bounty Collected: 0.9382 Opponent Network: 0.5512 LAN Wins: 1.0002 The average of these factors is 0.872 Next, take the maximum and minimum average across all teams and compute the following: 400 + ( ( Roster_Average - Min_Average ) / ( Max_Average - Min_Average ) ) * 1600 = 2000.0 400 + ( ( 0.872 - 0.000 ) / ( 0.872 - 0.000 ) ) * 1600 = 2000.0 For Bounty Collected, Opponent Network, and LAN Wins, we consider only the ten best results over the past 6 months. Raw values for those factors are multiplied by Age Weight. Bounty and Opponent Network values are also multiplied by Event Weight. The adjusted value is shown in parenthesis. The final value for a factor is the total of its adjusted values divided by 10. Bounty Collected is further scaled by the curve function3 Head to head adjustments are based on rosters' starting rank values. The results shown below are adjusted by Age Weight and not Event Weight To calculate a roster's Bounty Offered: First, take the sum of their top 10 scaled winnings ($1,185,020.42) Divide that value by the 5th highest value among all rosters ($444,744.78) The final value (1.00) is scaled by the curve function." Not everything but most of it

its only 1-24 teams that have direct invites to cologne, and if navi junior were in the 24 i believe only one of the rosters would be allowed to represent natus vincere in cologne.

no navi junior will get shafted unless NaVi skip the event. Also, top 24 are invited (8 Main stage, 16 qualifiers) so I dont even think 4 teams are skipping Cologne to allow NaVi junior to be up next for an invite.

Their own fault really for not winning any matches in Dallas. Just hoping for astralis disband or at least one team not wanting to play in one of the most prestigious events.

IMO it is misleading to spread the 400 basis points as a 100 points in each sub-category. Its even mathematically wrong I would say. NAVI Junior has 0 LAN wins and thus 0 points from this subrank. 0% of their VRS points are gained from LAN wins, yet it shows as 100 points in the table. It would be better to show the 400 basis points as a separate column. Its actually important to paint the real picture of the how impactful each subranking is. Opponent network shows as way more important than what it really is when shown like above, since you have to subract 100 points from all 4 columns.
