Sources: G2 in talks with fnatic over MATYS

The Slovak rifler may be making the step up to G2 after impressing during his time with fnatic.

Multiple sources have confirmed to HLTV and Croissant Strike that G2 are in discussions with fnatic to secure Matúš "⁠MATYS⁠" Šimko to complete the team's lineup.

This move comes after an earlier report suggested that G2 were interested in replacing current in-game leader Janusz "⁠Snax⁠" Pogorzelski, with ENCE rifler Kacper "⁠xKacpersky⁠" Gabara originally standing out as the prime candidate for his spot on the roster. HLTV now understands that G2 have pulled the plug on negotiations with ENCE.

MATYS' jump to G2 would complete a busy off-season for the international side. G2 are already set to acquire the services of former HEROIC AWPer Álvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" García and coach Eetu "⁠sAw⁠" Saha, having locked down the pair ahead of the BLAST.tv Austin Major.

In addition to securing both a new AWPer and a coach, G2 will also be adjusting to a new captain, as Nemanja "⁠huNter-⁠" Kovač is poised to take the reins of the team following Snax's departure from the active lineup.

MATYS has shown promising form during his time with fnatic, averaging an impressive 1.12 rating across his year-and-a-half-long tenure with the team. However, the Slovak rifler had limited exposure to notable events during this period, playing just two seasons of ESL Pro League and the Challengers Stage of the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.

Should this move come to fruition, MATYS would face a trial by fire in his debut with G2, who are set to return to action in the main stage of IEM Cologne in late July.

It really isn't about recover, more like rebuilding. They have been under that heavy individual based playstyle for so long. (the time HooXi was igling he's the one trying to avoid this I guess) If G2 are chasing monesy / niko's shadow they will never suceed unless they got zywoo and donk. Signing sAw is a good sign for building a real team based on team play, tactic etc.

Missed the part where Overdrive (or anyone) claimed zweih was going to G2. And you don't need to report every player teams are looking up. No one reporter that GL tried to pick Tn1r, Gr1ks or Molodoy and now we know it happened because of the players themselves. It can be as simple as G2 approached hin first, but then Spirit came and he'll rather play with Donk and in a russian speaking team.
