ash: "We've not really shown our A-game"

" Maybe it's not the worst thing, we ultimately got to playoffs, but we kind of had high hopes here," the GamerLegion coach said after the match.

ash came out in defense of Kursy, who had quiet performance against BetBoom

GamerLegion's hopes of lifting their first international LAN title were crushed on Friday as they lost to BetBoom 2-1 in the quarter-finals of FISSURE Playground 1.

Erik "ztr" Gustafsson's troops got off to a strong start, stealing BetBoom's map pick of Dust2, but fell flat in the rest of the series as the Russian side were in control on Ancient and Mirage.

Reflecting on the run in Belgrade, Ashley "ash" Battye argued that his team only showed glimpses of its potential "here and there."

"I think we didn't play at our best in any map really," he said. "It's going to take a while to get there. I feel like we've not really shown our A-game.

"That's kind of what we came here to do, to at least show a couple of maps. Maybe it's not the worst thing, we ultimately got to playoffs, but we kind of had high hopes there."

Oldřich "PR" Nový headed into the playoffs as the highest-rated player of the tournament after averaging a 1.43 rating across the wins over Wildcard and SAW. He looked far from his sharpest in the quarter-finals, in which he put in a 0.77 rating.

ash explained that PR was "sick all day," which had an adverse impact on his performance. "It's probably going to happen at some point that he can't just be amazing every single game," he said. "So we'll let it slide. Not something to really worry about. He is amazing."

He also admitted that the team "struggled a little bit on stage," something that has been a recurring topic around the squad.

"We'll just go back and check what happened," he noted. "I think mentally we weren't the best today."

Just like in Melbourne, GamerLegion faltered on stage

FISSURE Playground was GamerLegion's first event with Jeremy "Kursy" Gast, who took up the AWP from Henrich "sl3nd" Hevesi. The French sniper, formerly of GenOne, struggled for impact in his first stage match, posting a team-low 0.72 rating and getting only eight AWP kills, with ash stating on the broadcast after the match that he still needs to "get his nerves out of the way" and that "he looks fantastic" in practice.

Questioned about Kursy's performance, ash gave the player a vote of confidence.

"He will find his feet in no time," he said. "I don't think we've seen 10 percent of him so far compared to practice, but I'm happy that we're able to come here with 10, 11 days of practice and show that we're able to still make playoffs."

the expectation for talents now must be to hit the ground running. we have had too many examples of players coming into their first top team and having impact. in modern day cs you do not get a season to get good, you have to be good from day one.

I never joke :-) So many hype t2 awpers and Ash chose the worst one. Furia - team that has literally never scouted outside of south america picks up molody, a prospect hardly anyone is talking about and is now carrying them GL/Ash - someone that brags about how good they are at scouting picks up possible to most underwhelming awper of the off season I can keep giving examples

People were talking about molodoy in case you didn't know. The only reservation was whether it was a good pickup because of his lack of t1 experience or literally any experience of LANs. Also just because extreme talents take off right away on Day 1 doesn't mean everyone has to do such a thing. Acting like it didn't take broky, woxic, ropz, etc time to improve is just pure entitlement. Also, molodoy was t3. Not tier 2. Name some exciting tier 2 awpers that are fit for Gamerlegion.

people werent really talking about molody, when he got picked up the narrative was that furia should have got gr1ks instead. sure I can admit some people were talking about molodoy but he was more classed as a serviceable awper rather than the hard carry i then refer to #25. all your examples are from CS:GO, in CS2 a talent must be good from day dot in T1 otherwise they are a waste. The expectations have shifted after we've seen so many rookies do well from day one, not drop a 0.96 also "name some exciting tier 2 awpers" is such a strawman. i dont make youtube videos proclaiming to be an incredible scout and i am not paid thousands every month to scout people.

Yeah unfortunately you are wrong here, there was s a load of hype around molodoy but doesn't change your point in that you feel there were better options

You are the one saying there's so many other exciting awpers. If there are who should GL have gotten instead? This is a discussion, not a thing of "its not my job but I'll still criticize anyway" You can't just say they "should have done this" instead of "this" but not have any clarification on that fact. You also assume that CS:GO and CS2 are so different when they really aren't. By your logic every professional esports team MUST be good right off the bat. The fact that you nitpick the first stage match with his first new tier 1-1.5 team in his first tier 1-1.5 event is simply just a sign of clear bias and not correct thinking. You're free to your opinion but when pundits and many players in the program community believe ash to be a great scooter when he is (Fl4MUS, siuhy, iM, etc) there might be something wrong in your thoughts there. Ash has built the GL system himself and handpicked the players and has full reign which is why he wont leave GL. To not see his accomplishments for what they are is again just a clear sign of bias to me.

I just saw your next message on ashes graduates. What is wrong with a 1.1 iM? Must every player be as good as m0nesy or donk? The isak keoz volt core was never meant to challenge for titles; has that gone over your head? Not all teams are meant to challenge for titles, they can be stepping stones. Say whay you want about Snax but he won tier 1 events. I'm not a fan of Snax but he held up in some moments. Sl3nd fell off with high tier competition, which is not ash's fault. In tier 1.5-2 he was serviceable. Andu should be playing right now. He hasn't received a great offer from teams and pundits agree he should be given a chance. You're going to blame ash for an unfortunate circumstance? PR was not "the hottest of the hot" This is some stupid takes and honestly you should just stop talking on this website because you clearly don't know what you are even talking about You got me good with the bait. 8/8 you pissed me off icl.

Feel free to give some aditional examples. Sur Kursy might be a bust, but you're very quick to judge based on one tournament of which he played ok in 2 games and was bad on his first stage game... Give the guy at least a couple of months.

here are some of the bums that ash scouted: iM - the problem on navi. literally had one fluke run at the major then is a solid 1.1 rating player the isak/keoz/volt core were diabolical - where are any of them now? he replaced siuhy with fucking nealan and then snax - some increidble scouting there i bet you dont even remember the andu kid, hes really gone places sl3nd was only good under mightyax I cant say he "scouted" PR when he was the hotest prospect on the hottest ill give him this - siuhy is doing well but with his track record of IGLs I dont believe that that's ash's doing and he's somehow managed to make rez servicable

Lol, iM is still not a bad player, and I doubt he's the one reason things are bad at Navi The isak, keoz and volt core was indeed not very good, but isak and keoz were in the final of the Paris major which made then stay longer on the team I guess. And GL was like a top30 team back then. Nealan was barely there for a couple of months and for all the hate snax gets, GL wasn't that bad under him and he actually promoted to G2. aNdu had toxicity problems I read and he was promoted from the academy team.. He got REZ back to playing good, he found flam4s, both ztr and Tauson seem to take the next step in their careers under him, and so on. You seem to be a fervent hater but you have to take into account the money GL put into these players. Give me another manager or coach in the scene that actually has created that many careers and money with such unknown players in the last 5 years. Sure, he's a bit over hyped now, but the dude has a very good track record, whether you like it or not.

PR was sick. That's a legit excuse. Also "we need more time" is justifiable, because they have a new player.

because no player ever has been sick while at a tournament and won "we need more time" is justifiable if you were good in the first place. in that case, every team that isnt on top just "needs more time"

"because no player ever has been sick while at a tournament and won" There probably were, but that doesn't change the fact you play worse when you are sick. "'we need more time' is justifiable if you were good in the first place" GL made playoffs in IEM Melbourne and IEM Dallas. Additionally you can use the time excuse, when you have a new player, especially one who hasn't played in T1 yet. There is some cope from me and you don't have to agree with the thesis, that GL will be better, but at least you have to agree with the reasonability of the arguments.

I really like you Ash but whats the point saying this all the time yeah almost every team does not play their A-game when it matters, thats the point. Praccs and theory is one thing the other thing is to perform like u usually can on the server, every team would win any tournament and thats simply not possible. Your guys shown their potential and thats their ceiling I guess. Glhf
