Valve release August ranking update

Invites to IEM Chengdu are due to go out based on Monday's Valve ranking update.

16 teams are set to receive invites to IEM Chengdu

A monthly update to Valve's Regional Standings was released on Monday, with the results of IEM Cologne significantly shaking up the standings.

Spirit (3rd to 2nd), Natus Vincere (8th to 5th), and FURIA (9th to 6th) were unsurprisingly the biggest movers thanks to their results in Germany, while TYLOO's FISSURE victory propelled them from 20th to 10th.

A few teams went the other way, however. Liquid dropped a considerable nine spots thanks to their lacklustre form in Cologne and their decision to skip FISSURE Playground, and now reside in 26th place.

Aurora also dropped down five places to 11th, while HEROIC were also negatively impacted and fell down six spots to 18th.

The August ranking will determine invites to IEM Chengdu and Thunderpick World Championship, and the invitations are set to be distributed as follows:

IEM Chengdu

  • 2 spots by Europe VRS

  • 2 spots by Americas VRS

  • 2 spots by Asia VRS

  • 10 spots by Global VRS (awarded after the six regional invites have been handed out)

Thunderpick World Championship

  • 4 spots by Global VRS

Below are the Global standings up to the 30th spot as of the Monday update:

👽 I agree with some of your points, but HLTV rank is much solid, why? Reasons below: 👽 Furia actually was great in Cologne, with little luck they would won Mouz (mouz had so many times luck against furia that they surely won in lottery in this tournament) and whole tournament Vitality surely deserve first place, but after winning so many events in row you would think they have more points compared to next to Spirit, which did whole year only one tournament win and bad in all other tournaments (in that sense HLTV ranking works much better), Valve VRS global ranking give teams like TyLoo winning one tier-4 event in Asia like place 6th if i remember correctly (what they were at best after that tournament) Valve VRS rank need fixing, it change points and placements too fastly and don't count enough how team do on long run (or count how much worth is each tournament), that way all other ranks in world are based in every sport, but VRS is opposed to it

That PGL Astana 2025 doesn't count, because Vitality wasn't there or any other good teams It was just some random tier-3 tournament in Kazakhstan

Not Spirit’s fault that the other top teams are skipping the tournament and the associated points.

Maybe other top teams didn't want to attent tier-3 level tournament? for obs reason: tier-3 tournament.. Spirit did, because they knew they couldn't beat superior before summer break Vitality, they wanted to win something at least, even a tier-3 tournament. Its same like VRS ranking giving TyLoo top10 place, because they won some totally random Asian tournament where were zero top teams

0 top teams but a $1 million prize pool, which forms a big chunk of how VRS is calculated. All teams already know that, so if they choose to skip, that's on them.

Teams care more about tournament repulation and where its hold, players like Vitality earn so much month salary that for them winning mere $1 million prize pool tournament is nothing They rather play respected known tournaments WOULDN'T YOU YOURSELF in Vitality suits if you get rich anyway like Vitality players (I mean they make so much salary money compared to other teams)? Even if they wouldn't attend any tournament this year anymore, they would make so much salary money that tournament prizes look small compared to it

That's all well and good. But if other tournaments keep putting up big prize money and top teams keep skipping, other teams will benefit in the rankings as it is set up currently.

And BLAST Bounty Spring 2025 doesn't count either, no good teams attended that either (Vitality was still testing roles and new positions, which they changed after tournament)

Now that's a massive cope. Falcons made it to IEM Melbourne grand final with 2 days of practice after 1 roster change, but Blast Bounty doesn't count because Vitality only had a few weeks to prepare? Lol.

Problem was that Falcons had clear roles for each from begin that worked, Vitality didn't. After Vitality fixed roles, they have been the most dominant team in history of CS (25 years of history of CS).

your comments are very bias! it's not Spirit's fault that other teams don't attend Astana or haven't had enough time to prepare! it's like I say Vitality's tournaments doesn't count because Spirit didn't have time to change Magixx with Zweih or Donk was sick and couldn't play his best game! Whether you like it or not, Spirit is amongst top 3 teams and anyone who watches counter strike knows this so don't bother with counting points and so on

TYLOO are ranked as high as they are now because of their win at FISSURE Playground, the Asian Champions League win only got them up to about 19th in the VRS.

it's a ranking to organize tournament invites - especially the major -, not to be a definitive measure of which team is the best or the difference between teams. it would be a big step forward if people start seeing it for what it really is instead of forcing arguments it's not supposed to answer.

No, he put them there because that's how ESL does their invites: hltv.org/valve-ranking/teams/event/8041 That's assuming of course that no teams skip the event.

But which one to kick? Shoeheyyy and Ronald from Poland are both...from Poland so they will stick together saying they are inseparable while elNertzo was kinda...they best player along with twistz. I would say it would be better if they will convince one of them to get American or Canadian citizenship. Probably Canadian as US would send them to Cecot once they say they are immigrants.

I think it's a joke. The falcons bought a Heroic core at the start of the season (kixany, degster and teses) in order to get their rank and avoid going through the hustle of getting through the tough tier 2-3 scene like the Ninjas did for example. With the hard earned oil money received Heroic bought other players and are now again towards the cup. So they could sell once again.

1) tyloo is not better than aurora, cmon. tyloo wont be seeing another win for years to come (i still support them and want them to win). i doubt they will go beyond 1700 vrs points. 2) hltv ranking is significantly more accurate 3) vrs devs need to uninstall immediately and never touch a computer ever again.

Can you guys stop complaining? If teams want to avoid getting bumped down they just have to swallow their pride and accept invitations to "lesser" tournaments, especially if they are defined by Volvo as tier 1 international LANs. Like that little Fissure thing that the Tyloo fellas won and rocketed them up the rankings.

i want asian teams to dominate events, i want them to continue to improve, but plenty more needs to be done to get there. tyloo's climbed the ranks a lil too fast. hltv pacing is just nice. i want tyloo to climb, and do it as reliably as mongolz. with hltv rankings, it respects reliability. i mean just after winning the event, tyloo went back to their old ways. so whats wrong preferring one system over another?

A lot of people were complaining that the HLTV ranking adjusts too slowly. Now that we have this VRS ranking that adjust fast to...let's say current form you are complaining it is too fast? Anyway, Tyloo will have to defend their ranking. They will start to go down for not attending the upcoming Blast Bounty event. Then let's see how they will handle the all elimination eSports World Cup.

well i wasn't one of them, but i personally think if hltv is only 10-15% faster it'd feel just right. however this is very subjective. vrs isn't good. you see brazilians getting knocked out early regularly and yet, you still see so many of them in every event. it led to teams like lynn forfeiting and drillaz being an asian team (maybe unrelated but hehe) lets say mongolz win 1 mid event and vita loses 2 games in group stage to a much lesser team but still place 3rd in the event. suddenly mongolz is #1 in the world. after vita streaking 7 times, would you truly believe mongolz is the indisputable #1 then? so yes, i do think its too fast. hltv ranking has been great all through the years. when has it felt undeserved?

Tyloo is better and more interesting than Aurora in every possible conceivable way and metrics. And they are capable of winning events too. Not just group stage merchants.

aurora has enough experience to go against the best, even if inconsistent. tyloo does not have that experience. can they get there? yes. but first, just like mongolz, they will need plenty of polishing to be a proper top 8. and just what is a real top 8? naturally top 8 means breaking group stages consistently as there are exactly 8 teams in quarterfinals. at present, i think they have what it takes to reach playoffs half the time. half the time means they do deserve top16, which is consistent with hltv rankings and not VRS. as evident in cologne, this time they didn't clear group stage. im just being realistic. and at the same time, im calling VRS shitty.

Legacy will lose AM invites due to a 4 points difference to complexity... Winnings in sa gives them like 5 points, while any loss takes like 30 points...They gotta make a good run in every opportunity they get by qualys, to get a chance of start receiving good invites. Its odds, cus teams that made like 2 good runs granted invites for like the whole year. Even worse if you consider that worse ranked teams face better ranked teams seeds wise, so legacy will need to beat vitality early tournament after tournament to get enough points. So, if you are not an actually good team you will keep being destroyed by top 5 teams in most big events.
