G2 roll over FURIA in BLAST Open London semi

huNter- has called G2 to their first grand final since PGL Bucharest in April.

G2 have bested FURIA 2-0 in a one-sided affair in the second semi-final of BLAST Open London. With this win, the new-look G2 will be headed to their first grand final in five months, not having reached one since their last hurrah with Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov at PGL Bucharest in April.

"I think [FURIA] were not the FURIA they were in the group stage," Nemanja "⁠huNter-⁠" Kovač shared shortly after his team's dominant win over the Brazilians. "But I think us as well, we played really well today."

huNter-'s troops will now be preparing for a best-of-five final against Vitality, who are on the hunt for their first trophy of the second half of the year.

G2 quickly got off to a hot start on their map pick of Inferno, racking up a 5-1 start thanks to combined output from Matúš "⁠MATYS⁠" Šimko, Álvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" García, and huNter-. G2's firepower was soon further bolstered by the efforts of Nikita "⁠HeavyGod⁠" Martynenko, who found his first kills of the series through a 4k in the seventh round.

FURIA managed to whittle down G2's lead somewhat, although a fumble to a force-buy to end the half allowed G2 to complete their T-side up 8-4. G2 continued their reign of terror into the defense, with SunPayus and HeavyGod each putting up crucial multi-kills that afforded them the opportunity to finish Inferno 13-5 without breaking a sweat.

FURIA mustered a closer first half on their pick of Mirage, but only thanks to fortunate clutches from Danil "⁠molodoy⁠" Golubenko and Mareks "⁠YEKINDAR⁠" Gaļinskis, which denied G2 the opportunity to run away with the map despite the efforts of SunPayus on the defense.

The competitive, back-and-forth nature of the map quickly faded away once G2 and FURIA swapped sides. SunPayus continued his impressive individual output on the offense, and with an in-form huNter- by his side, G2 cruised to yet another 13-5 win to secure their place in the grand final.
