NRG move up to fourth in Americas VRS with Fragadelphia Fragville title

The North American team picked up its first LAN trophy of the year just days after making a roster change.

NRG won Fragadelphia Fragville on Sunday after beating Ninjas in Pyjamas 3-1 in the grand final, racking up 121 VRS points to jump to fourth in the Americas rankings just a month before the Major invite cutoff.

The title-winning run came just days after the team brought in Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek to replace Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly. The South African veteran looked at home in his first tournament with NRG as he averaged a 1.18 rating, the joint-second-highest on the team.

But the star of the show was Alexander "br0" Bro, who put up a 1.32 playoff rating and top-fragged on two of the three maps that NRG won in the final to beat a Ninjas in Pyjamas team that had to do without Artem "r1nkle" Moroz, who missed the event due to visa issues. He was replaced by Owen "smooya" Butterfield, who averaged a 1.22 rating in the playoffs.

The runner-up finish sees Ninjas in Pyjamas re-enter the qualification zone for the Budapest Major as they are now ranked 16th in Europe. "If we do well at StarLadder, we'll probably get there, and if we don't, we won't," Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer told Dust2.us. "StarLadder is going to be our Major qualifier."

There's still a huge potential for a shake-up in the Americas VRS: Brazil will host two open LANs in the coming month, and Fragadelpia will run a tournament right before the cutoff with teams like Passion UA and Wildcard in attendance, in addition to European sides such as fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, SAW and ENCE.

They will have to overtake paiN and Legacy. M80 is also close behind. I don't think NRG is actually good so I don't think they will reach Top2 Americas VRS by the time of the Major Invites (Oct 6th) x.com/MischiefCS2/status/196329675903717..

Pain, Legacy and NRG are in a 100 points window(140 if you include M80) and being involved all of them in international LANs, nothing should be discarded. Any team scoring a couple of wins against european teams or a good deep run could change it all.

I meant by a joke, but this shit is actually ridiculous, basically abusing Valves broken ranking system to make tier 3 teams earn more points playing against bots than some tier 2 and even tier 1 tournaments, now we have 5 NA teams in range to qualify to the major with one of them taking a stage 3 spot, and guess who is loosing all that? The ones that actually got this spots by doing well in the major while NA shit their pants

Are you talking about Brazilian teams (asking because of your flag)? They are free to join those tournament and snatch those sweet LAN points. In the tournament that this article is about there were 3 Brazilian teams in Oddik, Fluxo and Gamehunters. They also got a bit of a boost in their rankings but (naturally) not as much as the winner, NRG. Oddik placed 4th, Fluxo and Gamhunters 5-8. hltv.org/events/8647/fragadelphia-fragvi..

The point is that valves ranking system is broken and NA is abusing it, winning a tier 4 tournament shouldn't give you more points than reaching playoffs of a tier 1 tournament like M80 did, as an example. Other teams traveling to NA to abuse it as well is obviously not the fix I want

I mean what LANs do you propose these teams play in then? They should just hang it up? Blame Valve, not the teams. They're just playing in the system Valve created.

Obviously the fault lays on Valve, Fragadelphia was only the first to recognize this flaw and is farming money with one tournament after another, and the teams are just doing their job, playing the game. But it doesn't change the fact that this is a big problem that Valve is choosing to overlook

At the very least in SA the level of the teams is not so discrepant, so it's not an easy farm for one or two teams, but still, doesn't change the fact that the system is broken and the solution is not having more TOs trying to taking advantage of it, but just fix it

The prize pool is almost 3x as big, which means more points, and having better teams at the event also means more points. I personally don't think the system is broken, we want to see more LAN events and we want them to have more of an impact on the ranking than online events. This is how teams should be able to break into tier 1 events.

I agree that concept is great, but it needs some fine tuning, the difference that exists based on the event been online or LAN is important but should not completely overshadow the difference on winning games in a tier 1 tournament and in a tier 3/4 tournament, the balance is what makes the current system broken imo, not the concept behind it

Just ignore them, they're crying because NiP got destroyed, and would've been a 3-0 if they didn't have that hard carry early on on Nuke. God forbid NRG being decent to good, this was a good showing from them and Sonic just barely joined them, doubt it's even been a week.

Dude look at how many VRS points Wildcard farmed. They got in major spot placement and no way they're better than teams like 9z or Bestia. Same with Skinrave, or ODDIK farming points there where they cant even reach semis in CCT SA

Probably because they also had points added for winning lan matches as they wouldn't have been maxed out in that, where as pain would have already got a bunch of those just by qualifying.

Fixed? This is exactly what we wanted, more local lans, and the VRS are a great way to incentivise them. The problem is that these local LANs can be abused in a way that they don't pay the prize money to the teams, but otherwise it's what everyone should celebrate.

FURIA has a *massive* points lead, there's no chance that NRG will catch up to them before the major. FURIA will be at FISSURE Playground #2 which has a lot more points on offer. NRG also had a limited number of LAN games, which impacts your rankings. Going forward they will see diminishing returns from playing a second small LAN.

To my understanding, LAN matches played matters a lot if you haven't hit a certain bar, and my guess is M80 getting those wins online instead of on LAN screwed them out of a lot of points? Maybe the breakdown shows different, could be pretty stupid either way
