Astralis eliminate Legacy from EPL S22 to advance to Stage 2

The Danes dominated the Ancient decider map to punch their ticket to the next phase.

Astralis have staved off elimination at ESL Pro League Season 22 Stage 1, instead sending Legacy home while they proceed to Stage 2 with a 3-2 record in the tournament's first Swiss group stage. This is the second time in a row that Astralis send Legacy packing in their last two head-to-heads, as they eliminated the Brazilians in the 1-2 pool at FISSURE Playground 2.

Legacy struck first on their own map pick, which was a close affair in the first half, but Astralis disappeared completely on the attack and despite winning the two first rounds, could not win a single gun round on the road to a 7-13 defeat on Inferno.

Overpass was the most exciting map of the series, with a late 3vs5 by Legacy to tie things up 11-11 bringing it down to the wire after a T side in which they exploited the B site early on. In the end, the Danes held tight and put together two defenses to force a third map in the final round of regulation.

On Ancient, it was all about Astralis, and star Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz in particular, as the Danes cruised on the attack to a near-insurmountable 11-1 lead at the switch. Legacy won a clean pistol round to keep hopes alive, but in vain, as four rounds later the game was done and dusted, 13-3.

Astralis, then, advance to Stage 2 after victories over Fluxo, HEROIC, and Legacy, with losses on the way to GamerLegion and ENCE, while the Brazilian team won a derby against FURIA and a regional battle against NRG, but fell to two of the overperfomers in Stage 1, Gentle Mates and B8, before falling to the Danes.
