Skyesports cancels tier-one events for 2025-26

The tournament organizer has said it plans to focus on strengthening the tier-two and grassroots ecosystem.

Skyesports has endured difficulties hosting LAN events in the past

Skyesports has announced the cancellation of Skyesports Masters 2025 and their planned tier-one events for 2026, citing a shift of focus "towards strengthening the tier-two and grassroots ecosystem."

"We remain deeply committed to the growth of Counter-Strike 2 and will continue building a sustainable tier-two ecosystem that addresses a crucial gap — empowering teams with tournaments offering them a chance to climb the rankings."

Skyesports downscale plans for 2025 circuit

It is not the first time Skyesports has downscaled their plans for their tournament circuit, earlier this year moving from three planned events to only the one, Skyesports Masters, and reducing the prize pool.

It is also not the first time the organizer has cancelled an event, with Skyesports Souvenir being cancelled at the start of this year after Valve allegedly did not respond to Skyesports' request to reschedule the tournament.

BetBoom withdraw from Skyesports Championship over conditions, fairness concerns

Skyesports has endured a tough time of things since entering the Counter-Strike space in general, beyond the aforementioned issues with cancellations and downsizing. Skyesports Championship 2024, which featured the likes of The MongolZ and Eternal Fire, was plagued by issues to the extent that BetBoom withdrew from the event.

It is expected that indian organisers are gonna be bad given how corrupt system here is

oh that's possible. I haven't seen an update on that tbh. still, hard to believe they're still open with their track record of canceling tournaments, horrible tournament conditions, and slow/no payments to orgs and talent.

I also remember a few months ago there was a pretty serious accusation against a high level position of sexual misconduct, so they really have done it all and somehow are still persisting

TBF, the current VRS system begs for organizers to just exploit tier 2 teams and still have a notable line-up. You got teams like fnatic, OG, Navi, Passion UA, BIG (please disband) roaming 10K LAN-party's to farm some VRS points. It probably costs them more to travel there than whatever they CAN win. I would hold a tier 2 LAN event in a region which doesn't has any top-tier cs, in the local youth-house, community center or theatre. All you need is a good timing on the calendar for teams to panic sign-up to your event and you got pro teams attending your LAN which takes less effort to organize than your traditional 500-1000ppl LANS (God I miss those times)

I kind of did say something on similar lines that if India want to build a proper CS Circuit. They should Target Tier 2 teams at the edge of Tier 1. Cause no point in having tier 1 events if people don't even know the team and mainly it will not help Indian counter strike if Indian teams don't even put up a fight. So Start with Tier 2 - 2.5. Repair the reputation of Indian TO's and then move to tier 1.5. In 3-4 Years, so far the proposal seems to have been benched.
