FaZe slam Spirit to advance to EPL semi-finals

Spirit's pulled a disappearance act in their first big match with tN1R as FaZe outmatched their individuals.

FaZe have defeated Spirit in a clean 2-0 match to advance in the ESL Pro League Season 22 playoffs bracket to the semi-finals.

There, they will go up against the winner of the last quarter-final between Vitality and FURIA.

The win against Spirit marks FaZe's biggest scalp yet in their surprising campaign in Sweden, where they're playing an unexpected swansong with Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard.

And it was an impressive win at that. FaZe controlled Nuke early on by limiting Danil "⁠donk⁠" Kryshkovets's impact to near zero in Yard as the 18-year-old struggled to get on the board until round eight.

With David "⁠frozen⁠" Čerňanský leading the way, they then withstood Spirit's comeback from the 2-7 scoreline as the Slovakian put in three crucial multi-kills after losing six in a row from rounds 16 to 22.

Mirage was in FaZe's command from start to finish. Russel "⁠Twistzz⁠" Van Dulken was firing on all cylinders all throughout the first half, but his biggest contribution came early on in round 2, when he put his brawn and brain to work with a 1v4 clutch with the help of the clock:

FaZe did not let up from there and claimed a massive 10-2 half on the defense off the back of the Canadian and Helvijs "⁠broky⁠" Saukants's 1-2 punch, and it didn't take long for the team to confirm the victory after switching sides.

Why jcobbb was doing pretty well in his first few matches and rain is bottom fragging every single game in EPL. They fixed their role issues with Twistzz, and they have the fix for their core longevty issues with jcobbb. Not saying rain is washed or anything, but both him and the FaZe team need a breath of fresh air, even if they win ProLeague.

Not only is it respect to rain who's done so much for FaZe to keep him for the major, but rain has a far more consistent and reliable floor than jcobbb, who could drop-off against good teams, could choke on stage, and make bad decisions, all symptoms of being new. And lets make this ABUNDANDTLY CLEAR, however people try to frame this this is a jcobbb for rain switch. Not a twistzz for rain switch. This result is more than enough for reasoning to keep rain until the major, and if their result is QF, then jcobbb can come in on a fresh slate. That might be true but that doesnt change the fact that jcobbbs current level is lower than rain's. All im saying is that out of respect for rain and this season, let him play it out. Then you can put jcobbb back in so you have time to gear up again. Getting jcobbb ready wont happen in one month, so why would you willingly lower your chances of making it far into the major than rather resetting with a clean slate next season?

its well known faze had huge issues due to having both frozen and ropz on the same team and no real good entry lol but seeing as pretty much all tournaments before and after would have likely went a whole lot differently its very hard to say but navi had like 1/10 chance for that major then as it was anyways lmao

I remember the event and gotta completely agree with you, i also remember that ropz was not at all world class throughout that tournament, so i do believe that unless twistzz performed even worse had he had ropz´s spot, then i think they would have won. But gotta give it to Navi tho, because they deserved the title as well. But yeah Faze getting frozen without kicking ropz was one of the stupidest decisions ive ever seen. They might both be some of the greatest lurkers out there, but in no world will they ever be at their full potential playing with each other

Agreed Agreed, though from a danish perspective i want to say that at that time it could have worked getting someone like Zyphon to fill that spot since Faze clearly wants young players either way, but in the end it looks like they actually did just that because jcobbb reminds me hella lot of how Zyphon used to play and how insanely crisp zyphons aim was before this gigantic slump he is in right now and has been for a long time now, though jcobbb isnt replacing twistzz, but hopefully you get what i mean...

It's surprising to see TS players coming up into this match with such a bad aim. So many misses on Nuke and on Mirage they were just constantly getting caught off guard and losing all the aim duels. But it's visible that the team needs much more work done in terms of the team play. Sometimes they just don't know who should cover what and how to react to the changing situation.

Not surprised by this result tbh. They had a one month break, played 2 matches vs IC and HOTU best them, go to play G2 (which were bad aswell and spirit probably wanted to take revenge for their lose. Goes 3-0 in gs having another break while faze has been fighting since they were 0-2 Also Just to be clear I wasn‘t just Talking about today. Yeah the club spread themselves way too thin with all those other games before 2022. There were even rumors that some of those departments were basically leeching off the CS prize money just to stay alive. I’d guess the ownership change made the management situation extremely hard to control.

To me, map 2 was just a straight-up IGL diff. Karrigan basically downloaded chopper’s brain somehow and the whole team made the game into pure art. And with Twistzz bringing back the firepower and utility, FaZe finally looks like they’re playing that beautiful CS we once loved back in 2022.

Did you actually watch the game? The problem was the calls and the problem for Spirit has been the calls for a long time. It would be fine if they lost to Vitality or a better team, but they played like absolute bots today, and the calling and strats were the main reason. Spirit won their 1st LAN after donk and zont1x joined. They won their 1st LAN after sh1ro joined. They won their 1st LAN after zweih joined. There's no excuse to play like a tier 2 team after making 1 roster change. Watch the actual game and you will see how horrible it was, especially considering how they looked in the group stage. You will just keep making excuses for chopper and hally, but you need to accept that the Ukrainian was crucial for this team and should return after the major.

did you watched the game? the problem wasnt the calls. calls were pretty normal. most of the time spirit were just outaimed + some problems with chemistry. zweih failed the game also making lots of mistakes. donk and zontix played in academy and they played for months online before they won tier3 dunav. sh1ro was also very experienced when he joined. yes they won all of this events with chopper and hally. and they failed last two events before tn1r so their cologne form wasnt sustainable. now they have zweih who is a tier3 17 yo player and tn1r who is tier2 player essentially. 2 changes in 3 months is a lot and they need time to rebuild obviously. its just basic truth for every team in cs and you trying to argue with out of context examples just show that you are clueless about pro cs. you implying that they never lost in a similar manner with zontix just shows how delulu you are. zontix can return to a Russian team if zweih will keep under performing to replace him as a hard support player.
