NiP to sign draken - Report

Ninjas in Pyjamas are poised to sign William "draken" Sundin from Epsilon, according to a report from Flickshot.fr.

The 21-year-old will step into the shoes of Jacob "⁠pyth⁠" Mourujärvi, who gets the axe 15 months after joining NiP - his first European team following his sojourn in North America.

During pyth's tenure with NiP, the team won two international titles, DreamHack Masters Malmö and IEM Oakland.

However, pressure had recently been mounting on the team, especially after they failed to qualify for the ELEAGUE Major - the first Valve-sponsored event that they have ever missed.

draken reportedly set to join NiP

William "⁠draken⁠" Sundin has been playing for Epsilon since March 2016, when Epsilon signed the Swedish roster known as Cringe Gods. Over these 12 months, the team have had some good runs, including a first-placed finish at the World Cyber Arena Finals and a third-placed finish at the European Minor.

This is the second time in NiP's history that the organisation will buy a Counter-Strike player out of a contract, having previously signed Aleksi "⁠allu⁠" Jalli from 3DMAX.

NiP's new roster will reportedly consist of:

Well they brought in up and comming Swedish awper. Also even if it's not the skill that they pick up, the players, the team itself gets confidence from a roster change. What I feel is that NiP needs confidence. This is becomming smth like Smithzzz. If you take in mind all the bad things anyone has said about you obviously you'll feel down and won't have any confidence left in you. Also everyone knows that GTR is a REALLY emotional player, so confidence probably hits him the most in the team.

At this point, it seems that NiP's roster is just refusing to get out of the way. By signing draken, they've handicapped yet another decent team - Epsilon. Now imagine draken getting kicked 3-6 months from now for the same shitty excuse, Epsilon finding a new player in the mean time and draken being pushed out in no-man's land.

I don't think this was "forced" by NiP. If draken wants to play there and NiP pays the buyout, all is good imo. Epsilon is decent yes but they would never reach top 10 or anything with the current line-up. This is a good move for both NiP and draken and Epsilon can sign a young talent instead. This is all part of a process that grows the scene as a whole.

that's the problem though, when it was working well socially with allu they didn't win either. Maybe draken would bring a nice social element to balance out pyth, who knows. Anyways, it's up to the players how much they want to focus on having a good social relationship when that isn't working out for them. I think that as long as they wouldn't argue a lot and bootcamp together a lot then the team wouldn't have to be good socially in that aspect to win in the long term.

Well, NiP won with maikelele - then they sucked. NiP won with pyth - then they sucked. It's the "honeymoon period" where the social bit doesn't matter. My hope is they find someone, HOPEFULLY twist, that will work in the long term (and ofc -friberg). If draken and twist works out they can be sick again. But knowing NiP, they will probably fuck up again.

I struggle to understand how NiP thinks. First maikelele, then allu and now pyth? I mean what do they expect from a new player (in most cases they've never been pro's)? Do they think that the new player will bring olofm or snax plays to the team and win events? It blows my mind that this team involves the same people who actually wanted DSN gone in 2010 because they were no longer #1 behind Navi. They had functionally better results than this NIP lineup, and still wanted a major change. But then we have this NIP team. Which has proven itself to be in need of more than a single player change. They had some good results last year, but they don't really overshadow the bad ones (which were far more plentiful). I have no investment in Pyth, personally. But I definitely feel like the right direction for NIP is to make a 2 player change, friends or not.

Lol i said Pyth wasnt the problem and that it would be sad if the core would split up, but not that its not what they need..but friberg is a very emotional player and i think he can show amazing things if his mindset is right and i am sure they will work on it;)

I don't think draken is the guy who will save NiP. This team needs to disband and keep GTR, f0rest and Xizt. draken was totally unexpected and I still think friberg is the next in line.

I think the core is okay, the issue being friberg and the fifth member. I am unsure about GTR, he's a legend, but currently in poor shape. f0rest is alright and Xizt is not bad considering he's also the IGL. regardless, I think twist or Maikelele were better 5th members for NiP.

Thank god!!! Im happy that they kicked pyth. He was mediocre at best ,never steps up when needed and only gets his share of 10- 15 kills per match. Even xizt and friberg are better than him even though they have tough roles.
