ESL Pro League Europe finalized

The European division of ESL Pro League has come to a close earlier today with North, G2, mousesports, fnatic, Natus Vincere, and EnVyUs clinching their spots at the $750,000 finals in Dallas.

Over the course of the last three months, 14 teams fought in the European division of ESL Pro League Season 5 for the all-important six spots at the $750,000 finals in Dallas, Texas.

North played a fantastic season, only losing both maps to MOUZ and FaZe while tying three best-of-two's for first place in the division with 19 wins and seven losses. Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný and company had already secured their place at the finals prior to the last round as well, with 16 wins to their name in the end.

Na`Vi grabbed a spot at the finals thanks to a triple-OT win vs. Heroic at the very end of the season

Before today's matches, seven teams were still in the running for the remaining four spots at the finals. Despite a poor start in the season, G2 clinched second place with 16 wins and 10 losses, finishing ahead of MOUZ who had the same record but lost both maps in the head-to-head.

Much like the Frenchmen, fnatic managed to win their last two matches earlier today as well and secured their place at the finals with 15 wins and 11 losses.

In the end, the last two spots were decided via tiebreakers, as four teams finished the season with a 14-12 record following Na`Vi's nail-biting triple-overtime battle with HEROIC in the very last match.

Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev's squad finished first in the four-way tie (5-1 record in matches against the other three) and Envy placed second (3-3 record), leaving the two best teams in the world, FaZe and Astralis (2-4 records), without a spot at the $750,000 tournament in Dallas.

ESL Pro League Season 5 Europe final standings:

1. Denmark North - spot at Pro League finals
2. France G2 - spot at Pro League finals
3. Europe MOUZ - spot at Pro League finals
4. Sweden fnatic - spot at Pro League finals
5. World Natus Vincere - spot at Pro League finals
6. France Envy - spot at Pro League finals
7. Europe FaZe - $27,000
8. Denmark Astralis - $23,000
9. Denmark HEROIC - $19,000
10. Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas - $17,500
11. Europe LDLC - $15,000
12. Europe HellRaisers - $11,500 (Relegation Stage)
13. Poland Virtus.pro - $8,000 (Relegation Stage)
14. Poland Kinguin - $4,000 (relegated to ESEA Premier S25)

As outlined above, Kinguin have been relegated to ESEA Premier Season 25 following their last-place finish in the season, while Virtus.pro and HellRaisers are to play relegation matches against BIG and PENTA, respectively.

The North American division of ESL Pro League Season 5 will also come to a close in just a few hours, when we will learn the other six names that will take part in the league's finals taking place from May 31 to June 4.

There is no such thing as "team x deserves y". You either earn the prize/spot on ranking or you don't. It's real life, there are no consolation prizes for teams that were unlucky.

Sure the "worse" teams deserve their spot for having a good run and qualifying, but it just makes for a worse LAN event when you have envyus who won't do shit instead of faze or astralis who are potential winners

and also they never faced tier5 teams on lan they faced: HellRaisers - T3/2 G2 - T2 SK- T1/2 OpTic - T3/2 they faced against teams that are kinda good and lost to them because they were still a new team and easy to read.. as they said they learnt a lot from these lans which will maybe make them improve at their next event which is EPL.. tbh if they did something great on EPL that means they improved.. if they didn't they are just onliners.. let us see.. and then you'll have the right to say onliners for them.

LOL, funny how last EPL final was only teams from the NA league. Its not NA's fault EU teams don't perform online at all. Also its not like the EU teams are actually better than the NA teams. SK, Immortals, C9, Optic, Liquid, and maybe even NRG and Misfits are on about the same or a higher level than MouseSports, NV, Na'Vi.

Lol, the only teams you mentioned that could go far in tournaments vs EU teams at big tournaments are the first 4. Just because Misfits beat Na'Vi once doesn't mean that they can challenge any EU team at an event yet, and if I have to explain to you how Liquid and NRG are complete dogshit then I don't know what else to say. Anyways, you didn't read his message properly. If you could read between the lines then you'd realise that if there were 8 EU spots then we'd be seeing the 2 best teams in the world competing at this LAN, and no matter what you say, Astralis and FaZe are MILES ahead of Liquid and NRG. Edit: before you angrily reply to me somehow telling me how Liquid and NRG are better than FaZe and Astralis, it should be 8/8 so we can see a 16 team tournament where NA teams can show off their potential if they really have it vs EU teams.

And half the teams from the EU side of EPL can't go far at an international tournament. 16 teams is a shit ton for a league finals. Faze and Astralis just need to get their shit together and not lose online games that they should be easily winning. I'd give liquid just as much chance of winning EPL as Na'Vi and Envy. Yeah Liquid isn't amazing, but neither are the majority of the EU teams.

And half the teams from the EU side of EPL can't go far at an international tournament. Yes but a lot of EU teams have shown potential that they can do decently far at an international tournament such as HR, Heroic and North in the past although whether you want to call those flukes or not are debatable. You also have FaZe and Astralis who are currently world-class teams, VP have been bad recently but were good for about 6 months before their little slump as well and no one knows if they're back yet, since they haven't played at a LAN since Starladder and they've won several big tournaments and have gone incredibly far at others even if they've lost them. G2 have also won a LAN and made it to the semis at the other one and tbf to them they lost to Gambit who were the champions there and are a solid team now. You want to make everything seem like a competition as well, I realise that a lot of EU teams in the league are dogshit as well but again, more EU teams have played well at previous big LANs than NA teams have, and that's a fact no matter what you think. And seeming as you love bigging up NA teams a lot, a 16 team tournament would have more prestige than a smaller tournament since the competition there would be far greater than if only 12 teams were there, and if the format was good then the NA teams would get to prove themselves against the best of the EU opposition, and we get to see the good NA teams as well. Best of both worlds.

I agree that it's unfair, but there is a general agreement among csgo experts, analysts, and pros themselves (even those from NA) that EU CS players and teams (either strategy wise or aim wise) are generally better than those from NA. I understand your point, but for the sake of a more entertaining tourney, 8 and 4 would definitely be interesting (probably more interesting as an NA fan rooting for four teams out of twelve vs six out of twelve)

Very few people actually think it is the individual skill of the players. Its mostly that for one thing the best NA players are split up in to to many different teams a lot of the time and for another that the teams just do not have the level of strategy, coordination, and synergy. Another thing is outside of the top few teams NA and EU are pretty even. Half of the EU teams that did make it to EPL lan are not any better than the NA teams that will make it. Na'Vi, Envy, and Mouse Sports are all arguable worse than or on the same level as the NA teams. Misfits beat Na'Vi, Optic beat Envy, Mouz hasn't played any NA teams since this new roster, but hasn't shown they are above the level of the NA teams that made it.

Completely unfair. People are only upset because FaZe and Astralis didn't make the cut. You have teams like NaVi, North, and NV who have done absolutely nothing but get worse these last months, that in a perfect scenario would fill the last 3 spots of EU EPL in an 8 spot league. If NA had 4 slots you probably have SK, OG, Liquid, C9, Immortals, CLG, and Misfits fighting for a spot. Four of which make it, all of which can beat those last three teams from EU but won't make it because EU has more slots.

Extend EPL with two more teams and let the best 8 qualify for the finals. Problem solved. At the moment it would be extremely unfair to grant EU more slots in such a league system than spots for NA teams.

That's not the right conclusion. I said, the league should be generally extended with two more teams, to give two more teams the chance to qualify for the finals (not only Astralis and FaZe). 16 teams at finals make more sense anyway imo and we would see the best teams at the finals. As we all know bo1 is often luck because mistakes are being punished much harder than in a bo3. I was referring to the EPL season 6. Astralis and FaZe lost the spots rightfully this time.

Na'Vi's worst was like a week ago and they lost to misfits which is a much weaker team than C9 and Liquid. C9 and Liquid almost certainly wouldn't lose to Misfits.

Yep na'vi can't get their shit together at the moment.. Actually you can't include mouz because they could be able to beat c9 or optic...maybe not sk but the others are equal oppoments

Why are you reluctant to give NA teams a chance to practice? It would not hurt. It would actually make them better by facing harder opponents - that's how you become better - by fighiting more skilled opponent.

Cuz online = useless. There is no crowd, no trophy. You dont feel like you're playing for something, no motivation. But online teams that I quoted, as they know they will do nothing in front of the crowd, they show everything online. You'll see how this tournament will be boring af. It's already gg for SK. They have no competition.

+1. Really wanted to see a battle between SK/FaZe/Astralis again, but now I don't know who can win SK in ESL. In Cologne we have a chance for FaZe vs SK. And as you said ECS is only hope.

Yep. But the other problem is: All this events are too close of the Major. I doubt these teams will play 100% in there matches, they will save strats for the BIG event.

What's so special about Major? Other tourneys have bigger prizepool, so why bother with Major? It doens't come with bigger mone and its importance is totally superficial. I would rather win 200k at a tourney than win Major and earn 100k. The difference is huge.

Well, the 1st place in Major win 500k. At least this is the amount in the last 3 editions. All players have the "dream" of win a Major. It's like a world championship, even with 2 or 3 events per year, the best players compete and bla bla bla... I think everyone priority this Event.

AFAIK last Majors' prize for 1st spot was less than non-Major tourneys played close to Major. I don't give a fuck about prestige - money is what counts.

I can understand people's dissatisfaction because we will not have two of the three best teams in the world (I mean Astralis and FaZe) but I'm surprised why you want to keep VP. Poles are now in a terrible form and the tournament starts in over two weeks so it's impossible for them to start playing at this normal level. Better for the event that they will not be. I don't intend to offend anyone. I'm just telling the truth.

Honestly, it should be round difference first and then head-to-head, it's a league, you play against every opponent and your opponents also played against every team, so it's not unfair in any way to go with round difference first, and it represents what each team actually did during all the league.

I see no Problem in this outcome at all. I mean the Teams that qualified didn't qualify their spot for nothing, so this means a worldcup is still a worldcup in football for example, even most legendary Brasil or Germany wouldn't qualify. This league was all about highest elite skill and those that qualified now did justified. It's great and fully earned and ok how it is. I mean that those Teams qualified after such a long period of matches and time against all elite competition means something when we talk about absolutely highest international cs skill. maybe your all hyped FaZe and Astralis which are proven and great elite competitors by my opinion(no doubt bout this fact even i am not astralis cs fan) are just overhyped and overrated? Think about ít. :)

This is the reason why many of us feel LAN tournaments boring now-a-days coz (1) Proved LAN performing teams can't qualify through online qualification system. (2) Some of the online qualified teams can't perform in the main LAN tournament. Resultant to this, main LAN event remains boring or with less competition. If you will see Faze, Astralis, VP, NiP is far-far better on LAN than mousesports, EnVyUs, Liquid and NRG.

that wasn't the big tournament. In big tournament, VP will be 3-4 or in worst performance case 5-8. VP always have secured their major spot by remaining in TOP 8. That's their consistency in majors.

winning is the different thing but they will surely be in TOP 8 and secure a spot for next major. btw this time major is in POLAND so, i think they must be 1st or 2nd. Below that, it can be considered bad performance.
