G2, North qualify for ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals

G2 and North booked spots at the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals following a three-way tie at the top of Group A.

As the final day of the group kicked off, the race for the top two spots was wide open as all four teams were still in the running for the LAN Finals in Odense.

G2, who had bounced back from a defeat to Ninjas in Pyjamas in their first match by defeating North, ended their group stage campaign with a convincing two-map victory over BIG, who leave London without a single win but with the feeling that the series against the Danes could - and should - have gone their way.

G2 lived up to their billing as favourites and topped Group A

BIG looked like the better team during the early stages of Inferno until an ace from François "amanek" Delaunay changed the course of the game and powered G2 to bring the deficit to a minimum before the break. After a slow start to the second half, the Germans managed to put together a string of rounds and equalized the score at 12-12, but G2 made one final push and wrapped things up in the 28th round.

Dust2 ended up being a walk in the park for G2, who were in control from the offset. Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač was the star on this map as he led his team to a 16-6 demolition job of BIG, with the Serbian talent hammering the final nail into the Germans' coffin with a quick ace on the B site.

North went into their final match with their qualification hopes hanging by a thread as anything other than a 2-0 victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas would see them eliminated. With no margin for error, the Danes dug deep and managed to win a slugfest of a game on Overpass, a map where Ninjas in Pyjamas had destroyed Astralis at BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen. The Ninjas showed great fighting spirit as they recovered from a 4-11 deficit and twice rallied from three map points down before North eventually prevailed in the second overtime.

North beat NiP in two maps to qualify for the Odense LAN

Ninjas in Pyjamas came out the brighter of the two teams on Nuke, but things quickly fell apart for them as North went on an 11-round winning streak once they had guns in hand. The Swedes won the final two rounds of the half to keep themselves in the game, but their hopes would soon be crushed as North kept the pressure on in the second half and laid the series to rest in the 21st round.

The qualification will give North some much-needed breathing room. The Danes had no other LAN tournaments on the calendar and were under intense scrutiny after placing 9th-12th at StarSeries i-League Season 8 and losing to HEROIC and Tricked in the EPICENTER qualifier.

With, G2, Ninjas in Pyjamas and North involved in a three-way tie at the top, ESL resorted to the map difference in the matches between these teams to determine the final standings. The French side came out on top with a +1 map difference, followed by North (0) and then by Ninjas in Pyjamas (-1).

With Group A behind us, the team count for the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals is now at 12. The European portion of the league will continue on Saturday with Group B, featuring Vitality, fnatic, FaZe and HellRaisers.

The current team list for the Pro League Finals, which will be held from December 3-8 in Odense, Denmark, currently looks as follows:

how the hell they didnt qualify i mean rules here is full of shit. when three teams have same point actually they must look at RD cuz MP doesnt matter in this case like football same point = GD. in this case g2 go first nip second. cuz just imagine nip won against g2 2-0 then it should be count.... esl's rules need a real reload.

it will have impact if all games between 3 team that tied have same map score, said all end up 2-0, then round different is the one in use. Here nip beat g2 2-1 and lost to north 0-2 (map agregate -1), g2 have +1 agregate (1-2 and 2-0), and north with 0 agregate (0-2 and 2-0). thats why Nip 3rd

they need to do something about this sort of thing. Just seems stupid NIP can beat G2 and have the same number of wins but they still go out and then they had better round difference than North but because they lost to North they go out... so why bother even showing R/D

I mean, MD imo is better deciding factor than RD and it's the issue on hltv's side they don't show the former. Still agree, that new format overall is pretty dumb especially with the 3 way ties. Wish they went back to Pro League being a LEAGUE, but I suppose they'd need to rise the prize to make teams still want to compete with all the tournaments we have now...
2019-11-16 03:03

Yea but MD in all 3 matches is 5-2 G2 and 4-3 for both NiP and North. So they count the MD of the games betwean the teams with six points over the RD and thats just completely retarded imo. I mean North even lost a map to 0points BIG isnt that worse?? I think MD over RD is good but just go for RD when teams have the same MD cause everything else does not make any sense and is pretty fishy.

Going round difference is retarded.....it's not a fair justification a lot of times because you don't always play 30 rounds........you stop at 16..... For example a team wins 16-2, so the difference here is +14...... however if you play the 30 rounds, who is to say it wouldn't go to 16-14? Then the round different is +2 If round difference is going to be used, they then NEED to allow all rounds to be played out. That's probably why they don't use RD.....
2019-11-16 13:49

Well its not when two teams got the same MD. Starting to just count some of the games and just count the maps in those games is retarded. And a team that is losing 2:16 is more likely to lose 5:25 when you go all 30 rounds than 14:16. in my opinion it should be PTS>MD>RD counting ALL games. And name one Sports where they use the same strange system that the ESL is using.

No it’s not garbage. Your brain is. Compare 3 teams with same results is a normal way. In this way, you can compare direct results instead a RD which can be distorted specially if a team choke or give up... NiP has just to win one map, and had even the advantage to know that by playing the last game.
