fnatic return to No.1 in world rankings

For the third different time, fnatic are the top-ranked team in the world following Monday's weekly update.

The Swedish giants overtook Natus Vincere for the top spot after the IEM Katowice matches expired from the Form sub-category, which takes into consideration the results over the last eight weeks.

NAVI spent almost two months at the top of the rankings after dethroning Astralis in the wake of their Katowice title. Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov's charges were unable to solidify their position as world No.1 in ESL Pro League Season 11 as they had to settle for fourth place in the online tournament, in which fnatic beat MOUZ to the title.

Four years later, fnatic return to the top

fnatic were the team sitting at the top of the ranking when it was introduced, in October 2015. They held the position for merely three weeks before being overtaken by TSM, who featured the core of the current Astralis lineup. The Swedish team returned to the top of the ladder before the end of the year and spent almost four months at No.1 prior to NAVI earning the highest spot following back-to-back second places at the MLG Columbus Major and at DreamHack Masters Malmö.

Astralis move down to third in this weekly update, which is the lowest they've been ranked since September 2, 2019, prior to winning the StarLadder Major.

The next competitions that could shift the balance of power in the rankings are the ESL One: Road to Rio tournaments in Europe and North America, which are already underway. Just like ESL Pro League Season 11, they will be treated as achievements despite being held online to reflect the current reality of the competitive landscape because of the coronavirus pandemic.
