NAVI's IEM NY match against forZe postponed as Perfecto tests positive for coronavirus

The decision was widely criticised by FORZE's players, who believe that their opponents had special treatment.

Natus Vincere's IEM New York CIS Group A match against FORZE has been postponed due to "a health situation", ESL has announced. The decision came shortly after NAVI player Ilya "⁠Perfecto⁠" Zalutskiy revealed that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

NAVI and FORZE were due to play on Sunday their fourth group stage match in the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament, with both teams sitting level on points after winning two matches and losing one.

ESL has not yet announced the new date for the match. On Twitter, FORZE captain Andrey "⁠Jerry⁠" Mekhryakov said that the postponement suggests preferential treatment for NAVI after Virtus.pro were forced to forfeit the first map of their recent series against K23 as the starting time clashed with a match they were playing for another tournament.

"We realised 30 minutes before the match against NAVI that it was going to be rescheduled," Jerry said. "I know about Covid-19 and Perfecto's situation and it's terrible. When it comes to NAVI, rescheduling is fine. Virtus.pro had to forfeit the first map because of a busy schedule. A ten minute delay resulted in a map forfeit. When NAVI have problems, it's okay. Rules should be the same for everyone."

FORZE AWPer Bogdan "⁠xsepower⁠" Chernikov echoed his teammate's sentiments, saying that, "if it was any other team, it would be a default loss or they would have to play with a coach."

On Twitter, Ulrich Schulze. Managing Director of Pro Gaming, justified the decision to reschedule the match with "the seriousness of the disease plus the fact that there was calendar availability". He added that this is a standard procedure in other sports and that ESL "did not consider it appropriate to force a team to play in this situation."

Virtus.pro sit at the top of Group A with nine points from three matches. The top three teams from both groups will move on to the single-elimination playoffs, which will culminate in a best-of-five grand final on October 25.

Reason does matter if it's something that wasnt predictable. U playing 2 tournaments was ur decision and u had full control over it. However, getting a deadly disease is totally circumstantial and unfortunate. These 2 are totally different scenarios. Navi is not at a fault if one of their guys was found covid poistive. Its not that. Perfecto deserves a well rest and we hope for a fast recovery. But NAVI match rather than rescheduling should have been played with coach as a stand-in. That's the rule. A player gets injured or has health problem, they have a stand-in. All teams are forced to do that or select default loss. But Navi did get this special treatment which is absolutely unfair. In the past if any player got sudden health issue, coach comes in to play, it happened even for Astralis once. I am pretty sure other teams would have have to do same if such things happen. But we see how unjust the management is. But it won't matter as Forze won the match and would surely forget this incident pretty soon.

dude everyone knows for ages that ESL doesn't reschedule their games unless there's a really good explanation to why you can't play If Virtus Pro goes and says "hey can we reschedule our game because we are playing the closed qualifier of another tournament?" That's not an excuse, that's just poor management from the Virtus Pro team for being in 2 tournaments at the same time when they know really well that they had games for ESL, almost everyday of the week. if it was like that every team would be participating in all the tournaments and then telling other Organizers to reschedule their games because they're playing another tournament at that time. Now i don't know if it was just what happened to Winstrike, with their game against sAw, that they had to forfeit to play the ESL game. But if it was as sAw's manager said on Twitter, Winstrike had the possibility to reschedule their Flashpoint game for earlier but they didn't wanted to, so they forfeited. In VP's case I don't know if they tried to reschedule their game with Endpoint for an hour before or anything, but Endpoint are form the UK, and I don't know if all their players are in the UK or not, but that game already started at 10am in UK's timezone, which might be early for them, and if they declined any offer to reschedule the game or not. But that's still all Virtus Pro fault for playing 2 tournaments at the same time. And this is about someone's life at risk and not because Na'Vi were playing another tournament before.. This is not Na'Vi's fault while the VP situation was VP's fault and not ESL's

Forze players train and analyze the plays of a team, they could have wasted their time in a different thing than waiting hours to play against a tier 1 team just to know 30 mins before the game starts that they wont be playing cause a player is sick. Perfecto got diagnosed today, okay, then why didnt na'vi and forze reached a deal? The importance here is not what na'vi or forze lost, but how biased ESL is, and how na'vi's decisions were unfair.

I am not mad or disgusted because the match got postponed, I ain't even supporting some of the accusations by Forze players on Twitter, but when ESL themselves refuse to follow their own rulebook and take a decision on their own rather than consulting with the opposing team as it states in the rules, I call it bullshit. from IEM rulebook If a participant is not ready to play until 15 minutes after the scheduled start of the match, he is considered a noshow. In that case, the participant will be penalized, and the MATCH WILL HAVE TO BE RESCHEDULED, IF THE SCHEDULE ALLOWS IT. Otherwise, the opponent will receive a default win from the administration. Virtus.pro vs K23 match was different on that way because virtus.pro wanted to play that match BY THEM SELF! They didnt want to even try to reschedule it. Virtus.pro didnt show up in time so K23 got 1map advantage.

Boombl4 tested negative, but I'm won't be surprised if he had light symptoms and he got tested after he was healthy, but ended up passing it to Perfecto. Idk, these guys are all at the same place, so it's hard to tell.

The problem is that this is RMR event. If NaVi takes a sub for Perfecto, 20% points will be taken off, and when Perfecto comes back, another 20% will be taken off. It's not the same situation as VP before.

It's not about playing a game or not, but about respect and following rules. Navi contacted only ESL, and ESL immediately rescheduled the game, BUT by rules they can only reschedule after forze agree with it. Forze said that if navi contacted them, and respectively asked for reschedule they would've agree, but everything happened without participating forze in decision. It's kinda disrespect you know. The rules must be changed. It non-sence if team loses 40% of points when one of the players is ill. These rules are valid for long-term changes, but should NOT affect changes for 1-2 matches
