Mads Øland steps down as CSPPA CEO

The player association is undergoing further changes after announcing five new board members earlier in the week.

Mads Øland is stepping down from his position as CEO of the Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA) to take up a role in HK, the biggest union for salaried employees in Denmark, it was announced on Friday. His successor has not yet been appointed.

Øland has been with the CSPPA since its launch in June 2018. After leading the association for over a year on a part-time, voluntary basis, he took up a full-time role in January 2020, resigning from his position as director of the Danish Football Players’ Association after a 23-year tenure.

Despite leaving his role in the CSPPA's administration, Øland will remain involved with the organisation as an advisor to the board alongside prominent community figure Scott "⁠SirScoots⁠" Smith.

"We would like to thank Mads for his major contribution in establishing the CSPPA and wish him the best in his new role," a statement from the CSPPA read.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the CSPPA's first-ever general assembly, during which a new board of players was elected. Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire, Martin "⁠STYKO⁠" Styk and Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim are among the new faces on the board, which saw five of its founding members, including chairman Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth and vice-chairman Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski, relinquish their duties "to allow for new players to take over," according to the association.

He has nothing to do with CSGO ? So him being there wont change the scene one bit. He has nothing to do with valve.. He is a person working for the players. helping them with contracts and making sure the players rights and such stands. He has nothing to do with the sport what so ever. Only the players. Its a danish way of doing things, something that every workgroup in Denmark have sort of and athletes have. he used to work for other athletes to I think..

You clearly dont know how a union works since you are saying that he dont have any impact on csgo scene. It’s because of him and the rest of the union, that have forced Blast not to use voice coms any more, that is an impact on the csgo scene..

I actually do.. But you cant compare what he did to football with this. Firstly Valve is not in Denmark so the power he had there he dont agaisnt valve. Very different because of valve not being in denmark and under those rules. And 2. no matter what he himself can not make changes. Also why if you look at what his job has been for the players in cs, its been nothing like that. they dont do what they do for lets say football players. Its not the same sort of union.

Agian you dont know what a union is, your comments you just made, made it even more clear. Union have nothing to do with a country or the rules in the country. The reason a union works is because the workers and employer are both a member of it and then have to follow the rules of the union. So really have nothing to do with valve or country.

You just made it clear you dont know what it means. there is big difference on the nation. and how a union work in a nation.. Even more so in denmark where they are actually used by law to be part of worker rights and pay on a level that is not done other places. Its actually called the danish union model after that. And is very different from how unions are done in lets say the US, or England. There is a very big difference, and different rules to what power a union have. even by what kind of union it is. because the word union is not just one thing. but many. there a different types.. I find it fun you attack my knowledge of it by saying something so wrong. However it also tell me there is no point in going further with the conversation.. My guess is the next reply from you wont be about how you got things wrong. meaning the point of the conversation from that point will just be pointless.

They are not a part of the law, the law only says that politics are not allowed to interferer with the unions work. Either as worker or employer are forced to be in a union, it’s up to the employer or workers if they want to be in 1. The reason why so many employers in denmark are a part of a union is because the workers have forced Them to be it by not working as Long as the employer did not join the union. You are just a troll that thinks he knows how it work in denmark or you just trust something you got told that is not true.

Prove that the Association is just a shit fest from inside, I don't believe how players still think this 'Player's Association' is benefitting them in any way.

I think this is actually a good move. Remaining relevant and can still provide useful input but leave the position vacant for somebody else who has more time, I guess.
