After spending the past year playing in ESEA Premier, Eric "⁠adreN⁠" Hoag will reunite with Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski and company on Liquid.

adreN is set to return to Liquid as the team's head coach, sources with knowledge of the situation have told HLTV.org. The 31-year-old will fill the spot left vacant following the release of Jason "⁠moses⁠" O'Toole, reprising his role as head coach after being replaced by the former commentator in August 2020.

With adreN, the Liquid roster - which, at the time, still had Nick "⁠nitr0⁠" Cannella - attained the No.1 spot in the world rankings for a period of three months, peaking in mid-2019 as they secured tournament victories at six consecutive Big Events and won the Intel Grand Slam Season 2 prize in a record-setting 63 days.

adreN is set to return to Liquid as their head coach

The team's results took a downturn in the following year as the online era got underway, leading to a flurry of changes as nitr0 stepped down from the lineup and was replaced by Michael "⁠Grim⁠" Wince, and moses was brought to succeed adreN,

The team were unable to return to their previous world-beating form, and made further changes to their roster in January 2021, replacing Russel "⁠Twistzz⁠" Van Dulken with Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo. Still, lacklustre results continue to plague the team as they recently exited the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown following an 0-2 defeat to Dignitas, and were also eliminated in the first round of ESL Pro League Season 13 playoffs following a narrow loss to G2.

adreN, who has spent the past year streaming his matches in ESEA Premier with Mythic, will hope to help Liquid return to their previous level, with his first appearance back under the team's banner expected to be in the upcoming North American Regional Major Ranking (RMR) event, cs_summit 8, which will run from May 20-30.

If the move is confirmed, Liquid would have the following lineup:

That's stupid. Think about how bad mibr was when they had (brain) dead, a coach who was cheating, and seemingly just there because it meant fallen could have full control. Now they're adding adren, who appears from the outside to be a definitive yes man. So fallen is going in for the coup, can't wait for him to degenerate liquid to the mibr levels.

When liquid needed a hype man, they got moses to help them keep a positive attitude. Now that the roster seems in a better mood with fallen and the absence of grumpy twistzz, they dont need that hype man behinf them, but a tactical coach. What people didnt liked about adren was that he just stood behind them in tournaments and rarely said a word during pauses. Adren is not the guy who' going to hype you up. He's the cerebral type who will analyse the situation and come back to you later with a solution. He has enough experience into the game as a professionnal player, teacher, igl and coach to inspire liquid with new ideas. Its a good move.

Was Twistzz a grumpy man? I really don't recall any comments of that sort, but i might be wrong. Since nitr0 left shortly before adreN and after that (according to Twistzz) there was a role clash with Grim, and that led to Twistzz's leave initially. All in all, i'm glad to see adreN coaching Liquid again, he sure has a talent for coaching.

Yes, he helps find the plays, but if you watch their vlogs, he's pretty much very quiet and shy. They need someone in the middle and adren fits right in.

AdreN may have not been the best when it came to frags, but the dude has a brilliant tactical mind. I remember liquid having some good runs with him as coach, so hopefully they’ll fix some of these tactical/attitude issues that have been plaguing them for awhile. Also, -Grim and -Stewie if he can’t get his shit together under AdreN.
