Complexity beat NIP to move on in BLAST Premier Spring Final upper bracket

Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke was in red-hot form for the international side with standout showings on the series' two maps.

Complexity got their BLAST Premier Spring Final campaign off to a winning start by taking down Ninjas in Pyjamas comfortably 2-0 in the opening round. The international squad stamped their authority on the series after a 0-5 start on Mirage, going on to claim the map thanks to the deadly duo of k0nfig and Benjamin "⁠blameF⁠" Bremer before taking Ancient convincingly in the team's first official appearance on the new addition.

blameF & co. will now square off with Gambit in the upper semi-finals on Thursday at 15:30 in a rematch of their closely-contested three-map affair at IEM Summer, while Ninjas in Pyjamas fall to the lower bracket to face Evil Geniuses on Wednesday at 18:30 .

"It's hard to say we're confident versus Gambit since they're the best team in the world right now, but I do think we match up decently well against them," William "⁠RUSH⁠" Wierzba said in the post-match interview. "It won't be easy by any means, but we're not scared of them at all."

Ninjas in Pyjamas came out of the gates hot on their opponent’s pick of Mirage, cruising to a 5-0 lead off the back of a Linus "⁠LNZ⁠" Holtäng triple kill on the CT pistol against minimal resistance. That all suddenly changed in the sixth round when momentum swung overwhelmingly in favour of Complexity with a Deagle round success, as the international squad secured nine out of the following ten rounds for a 9-6 halftime advantage.

Ninjas in Pyjamas yet again started strong at the beginning of the half to bring the deficit within two rounds, but the Danish duo of k0nfig (1.65 rating) and blameF (1.50 rating) proved too hot to handle as Complexity locked down the opening map, 16-10.

Next up was Complexity’s first official appearance on Ancient, where they engaged in an early back-and-forth with Ninjas in Pyjamas before pulling ahead. The Swedes could only find two more rounds on their offence moving forward as the CT side shut them down convincingly for an 11-4 lead, with Complexity’s Danish pair once more running riot with over 100 ADR each at the half.

A P250 3K from Justin "⁠jks⁠" Savage kicked off his team’s T side, and though Ninjas in Pyjamas still held out briefly with a few well-executed retakes, Complexity soon secured the five rounds needed to take the map.
