paiN secure first-ever win over Extra Salt to qualify for BLAST Fall Showdown

The Brazilian side toppled Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou's troops in a very close series.

paiN have claimed victory in the Fragadelphia Fall Invitational, picking up their first series win over Extra Salt — who they held an 0-9 record against — to book a spot at the BLAST Fall Showdown beginning in October.

The three day event went off as one would expect, with both of the eventual finalists advancing to playoffs at the top of their respective GSL groups. GODSENT also advanced from Group A, while Party Astronauts narrowly defeated Bad News Bears to secure the second playoff spot out of Group B.

biguzera was the key to winning Vertigo

All three playoff games went the distance, with both paiN and Extra Salt eventually overcoming their semifinal opponents to meet in the grand final. There, neither team managed to win their own map pick, with Extra Salt decisively winning Inferno and paiN putting up a similar showing on Vertigo, leading to a deciding map of Ancient.

Throughout most of map three, Extra Salt held a strong lead, and eventually hit a score of 14-10. However, it was Vinicios "⁠PKL⁠" Coelho who put up a huge performance in the second half to bring his team all the way back to secure map point.

Although Extra Salt managed to fight back into overtime, they were unable to stop paiN's momentum, and it was the Brazilian side who came out on top at the end of the series to take the win.

With the conclusion of Fragadelphia Fall, all of the regional qualifying tournaments for the upcoming BLAST Fall Showdown have been completed. In addition to the eight teams that won the qualifying events, the bottom six teams from the BLAST Fall Groups will head to the Showdown, and two will be invited from outside the BLAST circuit.
