k0nfig nears Astralis move - Report

The Dane looks set to leave Complexity following the end of his contract with the organization.

Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke has decided not to re-sign with Complexity as he is close to completing a move to Astralis, according to Jaxon. The Dane's contract with the Dallas-based organization reportedly expires on January 1, 2022.

The report comes during a transitional period in Astralis. With the current contracts of three of their players, Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen, Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth, and Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif, as well as coach Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen set to expire at the end of the year, rumors have been swirling around the Danish powerhouse's future for months.

k0nfig is reportedly leaving Complexity at the end of the year

At the moment, the Danish organization seems to only have the other three members locked in for 2022, including in-game leader Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander, who recently inked a new three-year deal with the team, Lucas "⁠Bubzkji⁠" Andersen, and newest member Philip "⁠Lucky⁠" Ewald.

Further fueling the rumors, Xyp9x recently spoke out about his situation and his future with Astralis after he sat out the group stage ESL Pro League Season 14 to make room for Lucky, saying that he is exploring his options and that nothing is set in stone.

k0nfig is currently on medical leave in Complexity after he suffered a wrist injury. Although most recent updates suggest his recovery is going well, the 24-year-old is expected to be out of action until at least November after Complexity signed Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David as his replacement for their upcoming events, including BLAST Premier Fall Groups, IEM Fall, and PGL Major Stockholm, should the team qualify.

k0nfig's departure could open up a possibility of the Brazilian star retaining his spot in the team on a permanent basis beyond his current deal with the organization.

Whaaat. I guess he cant wait after having to wait for this long to attend a LAN event! That and a stable foundation Astralis can provide comapred to complexity. otherwise this doesnt make sense I mean complexity was on its way to make a solid lineup. with poizon and esetag. On Astralis im not sold yet on budzki and lucky. I suppose having dupreeh and magik still makes up for it. Their foundation and best IGL+ best coach. but there are question marks around that for how long will the coach zonic stay and will glave manage being a father and leading the squad in the future. I suggest they continue forward as now with glave on extended leave if you ask me. I wish they would bring in another dane like esetag or valde instead of either one of the two new bloods. either that or make complexity great. Looks like Astralis and complexity org are in competition. I know OG have been creating for some time now but valde should join Astralis already if they want to have another shot at greatness. the biggest question mark remains on this team as in the awp role.

I didn't say whether he believed in the future of Astralis or not, so I'm just going to ignore that :p I suspect this is a move planned for after the major. I don't think the move is because he wants to play in the major. Complexity would probably let him play it, if they think he'll recover in time.

It's a longterm plan for sure. k0nfig has matured a ton. Him and magisk will keep the spirits quite high I believe. Both stepped away from toxicity, and became highly regarded teammates. This will make it a lot easier to keep magisk in the team as well.

Lets be honest, I hate to say it but k0nfig will prob be replacing Bubz because Dupreeh and magisk is doing really well and gla1ve will be returning as an IGL .They also bought Lucky for a really cheap price from a tier 2 team and keep this in mind, he was expected to replace dev1ce as an awper and i think he's doing his job fine if u think about it. main takeaway from the move imo is reaffirming gla1ve's signed 3 year contract w astralis. we all thought it was just for press when gla1ve was saying astralis is fully committed to building their roster but ig this proves it. this is prob the best move they couldve made considering the context. they capitalized on konfig's shtty environment in complexity (in terms of how unlucky the team has been w poizon injury, obo leaving and now konfigs injury). i dont think valde wouldve left OG especially w the flamez pickup, which prob motivated him. abt the astralis roster, we cant criticize lucky cuz of how little experience he has and how long its been since hes joined. bubzki i think is the more concerning piece not becuz of individual skill but mainly becuz of the role clash with konfig and even gla1ve who tends to be aggressive. so i def think bubzkis straight up gonna be benched with this move. as weve seen in blast, dupreeh and magisk are still in decent form so this new astralis will be threatening only IF lucky becomes a good awper (like the level of broky, mantuu or even 2020 syrson).

Dupreeh is by far the oldest 28yr old. Seeing Astralis is making ready for a 2nd generation roster taking into account preformance still its between magisk and dupreeh. Doubt they would wreck bubzkies contract so soon. but that would also make sense if you were looking to get some titles and thropies again faster then later. for a strong team now. glaive dupreeh konfig magisk lucky Would make the most sense. For future project and contracts inmind, glaive konfig magisk lucky Bubzki Perhaps they can get a sweet deal on dupreeh to get money back for k0nfig.

On the other side we have dupreeh potentially joining up with device as an experienced player to NIP to have double D. Role for role he would best replace plopski. although LNZ is unexperienced he has great decision making skills and aim skills already. Then we got xyp9x who could see joining up in perhaps heroic as that experienced clutch guy or in OG in the international roster. or MAD lions. who knows. on the other hand rolewise NIP needs someone like xyp9x. does he still have it in him? but I'd doubt he would go there. I have no idea about xyp9x for years he was my favourite player to watch ingame.

Well, k0nfig is surely one of the best players in Denmark atm., but honestly I just don't see him fitting in Astralis, idk. why, but I just don't see that working. I feel like it's better for both Astralis and him that this move doesn't happen, I know it's sounds ridicilous, but it's just my opinion.

Makes sense for k0nfig. complexity have just never quite delivered on what they were capable of, they've had a lot of time. And if you're a dane and Astralis come calling it's hard to say no. Also could convince Magisk and xyp to stay. For coL, bring back oBo and keep coldzera and kick jks??

I don't even like this move. We didn't get to see the full new col line-up which had insane potential to be a consistent top-5 team. After all their troubles what they needed was stability, just a permanent line-up for a few months with everyone on form and now it's all gone to sh!t. I'm gonna miss him on that team and I hope he won't regret his decision... He has to heal & recover first, maybe he can still change his mind depending on col's results, I think that team has more potential than current Astralis (even if they themselves are also figuring out things). Bummer. (If coldzera doesn't work out and konfig gets back to his level, I hope Jason Lake will give him an offer he won't refuse.)

Interesting. Something had to change in CoL, I don't think there's much point comparing konfig to coldzera at this stage but it's Saturday so I will, konfig better imo (but not best). I think there's a world where this move could work really well for everyone though, maybe coldzera will be a good fit in CoL and konfig can find a home in Astralis.

I know, he was full time awp for a while doe and did good. But yeah he is a rifler by heart and performs best in that role. I was just looking around at what danish players there is out there who would mesh togheter skillwise and experience wise.
