The 22-year-old will no longer start for fnatic after a failed bid at qualifying for the Major.

fnatic have announced the removal of Jack "⁠Jackinho⁠" Ström Mattsson from the active roster, ending the Swede’s 10-month tenure in the starting lineup which began when he was brought on to fill Robin "⁠flusha⁠" Rönnquist's shoes at the beginning of the year.

Jackinho’s start with fnatic was a bumpy one, as he wasn’t immediately given the AWP, his preferred weapon, while Jesper "⁠JW⁠" Wecksell and the rest of the team adjusted to the new change. After some time the 22-year-old was finally given the main sniper role in the team, although he ultimately wasn’t able to find his footing to become a stalwart in the squad.

Jackinho will no longer start for fnatic

Jackinho joined a struggling team and with a complicated situation regarding roles in January, and he failed to impress out of the gate. Despite starting off with a decent performance in one of fnatic’s few good showings this year, when they came in second at cs_summit 7, the Swede posted back-to-back below 0.90 ratings in the team’s 13-16th and 17-20th place finishes at IEM Katowice Play-In and ESL Pro League Season 13.

The Swede’s numbers went up to a 0.97 rating at Flashpoint 3 and 1.00 at IEM Summer, both of which the team finished in 13-16th place, and he then survived the first step of a restructuring in fnatic’s Counter-Strike team as they moved from a Swedish roster to an English-speaking lineup with the benching of JW and Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim to make way for Alex "⁠ALEX⁠" McMeekin and William "⁠mezii⁠" Merriman.

fnatic haven’t been able to revert the situation to become a top contender and after falling short at ESL Pro League Season 14 and missing out on qualifying for the Major with a 0-5 record at IEM Fall, they are moving forward with their rebuilding efforts — this time in the AWPing department.

For now, fnatic will be bringing on Movistar Riders’ benched sniper, Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield, on loan as a temporary stand-in during the IEM Winter Open Qualifier 1 while they work on finding a permanent solution to replace Jackinho.

This just tells me you have absolutely no idea about roles in CSGO. Olof plays really shitty roles on many maps. It’s really hard to „perform good“ playing those roles. Last time Olof took a break FaZe was an absolute mess. You can’t just replace him. Even ropz rating would drop MASSIVELY if he took all of Olofs positions.

Im talking shitty ct roles here. Last 3 months Olof has a 1.07 rating in big events on ct. Despite his bad roles. Yes, his T rating in the same time is way below 1 but thats expected from someone who gets traded a lot.

anyone who disputes that is insane. Olof isn't irreplaceable, but to only analyse this with ratings is to miss 90% of the picture. Faze can only move on from Olof if they are absolutely certain that the new guy fits those same roles/positions.

Its only a coincidence. There were no better options for them then to get alex and mezii, regardless of their flag. And smooya being taken on as a standin when literally 0 people would believe that he would turn down an offer from fnatic, tells me that he is not getting signed. Is it just me or have all these young Swedish talents been a pretty big letdown? Jackinho, Nawwk, ZTR, Plopski, even Brollan has been struggling heavy. REZ seems like the only one who can hold his ground on a big team and he can hardly be considered a "young" player now with the years of exp he has. Disappointing.

Removing Jackinho makes sense, Smooya would not make sense, though as stand-in I suppose it'll do. They could look to cannibalise Lyngby or HAVU maybe; Fashr or xseven would be a good pickup. Of course OG, Mouz, or ENCE would be better, but they don't have the money for that, maybe Mantuu, Bymas, or Frozen or something, but they're probably all too expensive for FNC.
