Complexity, Liquid, Bad News Bears, TeamOne top first North America RMR qualifier

Only three spots now remain for teams hoping to qualify for the Major.

The first of two North American open qualifiers for the PGL Antwerp Americas Regional Major Ranking tournament has come to completion, with Complexity, Bad News Bears, Liquid, and TeamOne all securing their spots at the event set to take place in Romania.

The bracket, which began on Thursday, already saw many big scalps fall before the top 16 stage, as Evil Geniuses, Orgless, and Party Astronauts were all eliminated early.

Complexity ran into little difficulty in the bracket

The round of 16 immediately featured many big match-ups, resulting in the elimination of Carpe Diem, Third Impact, and paiN at the hands of TeamOne, ATK, and Bad News Bears, respectively.

The qualifying matches were overall fairly one-sided, as Liquid dominated Strife and Bad News Bears swept aside Mythic with relative ease. Complexity ran into a bit of trouble on Ancient against ATK, being down 13-4 early into the second half. However, a massive defense led by Justin "⁠FaNg⁠" Coakley helped the North American side to mount a successful comeback and take the map and series.

By far the closest series was between the two remaining Brazilian teams, GODSENT and TeamOne. Things kicked off strong for Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo's men on Mirage, as they racked up a 10-3 lead on the CT side. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old Pedro "⁠Maluk3⁠" Campos rolled back the years to put up an even stronger defense of his own, propelling his team to a 16-14 victory despite being down 13-5.

GODSENT kept their composure however, and managed a controlling victory on map two, Ancient, with Eduardo "⁠dumau⁠" Wolkmer posting a strong 1.55 rating. Their hopes of qualifying for the RMR tournament were dashed in the end though, as a commanding Terrorist side of Nuke pushed TeamOne to take the third map and series victory.

The final open qualifier for the PGL Antwerp Major is set to begin on Saturday, March 12, awarding the final three spots at the America RMR tournament. Here is the current lineup of teams qualified for the event:

3 NA teams and 10 SA so far, with GODSENT not qualified yet I guess there is not going to be much NA teams in the Americas qualifier which is sad, I hope EG makes it because that it would be a huge blunder if they don't.
