PGL Major Antwerp talent lineup announced

An extensive lineup of on-air talent will bring you the action in Antwerp over two weeks in May.

A little less than a day after all the participating teams have been determined, PGL has announced the complete on-camera crew who will be on the official English broadcast of the upcoming Major tournament taking place in Antwerp, Belgium, from May 9-22.

Many from the Regional Major Ranking broadcast will return, but there will also be some new yet familiar faces on camera when action kicks off at the Major itself. Joining Eefje "⁠sjokz⁠" Depoortere in duties on the desk will be Freya "⁠Freya⁠" Spiers, while Frankie "⁠Frankie⁠" Ward has been appointed as the stage host.

PGL has chosen a trio of analysts in Jacob "⁠Pimp⁠" Winneche, Mathieu "⁠Maniac⁠" Quiquerez, and Alex "⁠Mauisnake⁠" Ellenberg, with the latter set to return to the desk after a stint making sideline content at the qualifying events in Romania.

On the commentators' post, Chad "⁠SPUNJ⁠" Burchill will have his usual co-star Alex "⁠Machine⁠" Richardson back by his side, with another highly popular duo Mohan "⁠launders⁠" Govindasamy and Conner "⁠Scrawny⁠" Girvan set to return after two weeks of action in Bucharest.

Harry "⁠JustHarry⁠" Russell and Hugo "⁠Hugo⁠" Byron will be back behind the microphone in only the duo's second-ever appearance on a Major broadcast, while the fourth and final commentator pairing will be Vince "⁠Vince⁠" Hill and Sudhen "⁠Bleh⁠" Wahengbam.

Get out of his balls. He is unable to make deep analysis on csgo. This is clear. I dont know about other esports. But he is unable to work as a professional on a major. There are better people than Thorin for the job. Doesnt matter if he was good on cs 5 years ago. The game change, the meta change, the players change, but he always makes the same kind of dumb analysis that any silver can make.

The issue is that almost all of his takes are shit. He hayes it when teams sign new talent and shits on thebplayer for it. Exhibits a & b, sewie2k when he first joined c9 thorin what on him for being too puggy, the rest of the community joined the bandwagon. He was fucking godlike on that roster. I only started following CS in 2019. Do you know what I learned inside of a year? People with brains don't shit on new talent. If the scene is going to grow and improve, we need them. Astralis signing lucky was good, mouz bring up their academy players was good. Even if it didn't work out short term for astralis, it gave lucky a chance to grow and become a t1 player. I dislike this EG roster because they threw old prices together and guess what? IT DIDNT WORK. So before you shot on me as an hltv nobrains, think about how what I learned in a year thorin is still doing after following CS during source. If he had his way NIP would still be undeafeted, because he hates change.

This is hilarious because it's absolutely the opposite of what Thorin said recently on Pop Flash. He specifically stated that the CS community often has way too high expectations for new players and doesn't give them sufficient time or support to develop, and specifically brought up Lucky as an example of this. He said that he feels bad for Lucky because his poor performances were due to Astralis not developing him properly or giving him the support a young player needs, and that it was terrible that the knee-jerk reaction of the community (aka you) effectively ruined this young man's career and we'll probably never get to see him develop into the player he could have been. If you're going to suck Thorin off and say he's the best analyst, you could at least usd a few brain cells when making that argument.

We have different perspectives. Yes, Thorin feels bad about Lucky because he maybe will not develop or have a shot at a t1 team. But at the same time, because he was trash, a great team like Astralis who have the potential to be top5 with k0nfig, blameF and gla1ve shouldn't need to keep an undeveloped player who isn't ready for t1 on the roster (+ he was replacing device, if not the GOAT then 2nd Greatest of all time) so expectations were higher for him compared to someone like m0NESY or Torzsi since in monesy's case he wasn't replacing an awper (G2 didn't even have a proper awper before) or Torzsi who was replacing acoR who was shit.

If you pay attention to his analysis you will notice that he is unable to say anything smart about the game. You will never learn anything about the game when you hear him speak . Furthermore not working any events just intself should be a reason to not work the major at all. If you are a talent, you work as one, and not only do majors. Um he's got more than enough game knowledge to get by and he's got the most knowledge on scene's history out there which compliments the desk of three great. Don't even miss him not being on the desk, I'd be more salty about Frankie as stage host for this event or lack of established names in the cast. Plenty of LANs for newer talents to be had, major is crème de la crème as far as I'm concerned. With that said Thorin on the desk is perfectly fine.

Pimp, Maniac, sjokz (not for CS tho), launders, Spunj, maschine are all established names in the scene. Just because people like semmler (who doesnt cast much atm), moses, sadokist etc. are not there how is this talent lineup not the creme da la creme in your words? It has nearly all top talent of our scene from the past 2 years there. Add to that sjokz who is well known in LoL and did a few CS events before. Like thats as good as it gets. Thorin has no right being at events anymore, if he doesnt work more events during the year. That goes for all talent. You need to actually do stuff as talent over the year to work the major in my opinion. Add to that Thorin being mediocre at best as an analyst so yeah

As an one example, one of the main believes he has is that in the long run teams with more money are the only teams that should be able to stay at tier1 for any prolonged period of time. Therefore he does not like any team that does not have strong org behind the team and does not like underdog stories. For example I remember few years back that he really didn't like Ence, said that they are "an anomaly" to reach top5 with weak financial backing they have and didn't really talk about cs why they reached top levels at all. I have not any of the recent stuff, there is just no point.

this is so false in every way he is a massive fan of MOUZ because they are an old esports company that is very effective at using little money to produce great teams through scouting etc. he doesnt hate underdogs and it is an objective fact that better backed orgs tend to flood the top of the rankings cause they can get better players? he also talks about gambit (c9) being a very good lineup and that the org of Gambit is very small and has been able to stay relevant through scouring CIS players. idk where you get these ideas from

+1 idc about the analyst desk now i will just skip it and the casters are fine imo, whats really going to kill it are those observers, and PGL have been known to have problems with hiring good observers. maybe these guys are experienced and are good i cant be sure but i already see the same thing coming: they will miss a bunch of action all the time and PGL will not have the budget and infrastructure in place to deliver whats now standard for blast and ESL events: to pretty much always show at least a replay of anything that was missed. and on top of that they have the best observers in esports already in place.

esl events equal blast events in terms of production, godly observers for the most part (especially rushly imo the goat observer, so far ahead of everyone else) but also replays for everything that was missed and slowmos for anything that might have happened super fast. but this is my biggest worry about the event also.

I think the point of talent in between games is to deepen the viewers understanding of the games and give points for viewers to focus on and therefore make the games in itself more entertaining and easier to watch. This time they invited the two best casting duos. I know others are legends, but just like players learn from each others to improve, so does the casters. And the hungry just improve faster than an established legend. Scrawny & Launders has (IMO) slow and steady taken over the position as the best duo IMO. They have good role balance and a their synergy still seem to be growing. Second best is Hugo & Harry. Harry has great energy, I always love listening to his smiling tone of voice.

Moses and Sadokist were the only ones I had gladly seen instead of Vince and Bleh but other than that I like these people, especially to see both sjokz and freya as desk hosts. Compared to last major the amount talent seems a bit fewer, for a major it's a rather thin lineup but I guess even PGL running out of money despite their budget-friendly oriented events.
