crisby to coach new OG academy team

The German veteran has been tasked with putting together and heading OG's youngster project.

In mid-February, OG announced their plan to put together an academy roster, sharing their aim to ensure long-term success and stability of their CS:GO division, and started an application process for the project's leader and lineup.

Two and a half months later, the organization has now revealed the head coach of the junior squad. 30-year-old veteran Christian "crisby" Schmitt has been chosen for the position and tasked with compiling the lineup from over 50 candidates, who will undergo trials in the coming weeks.

The German is perhaps best known for his numerous stints with ALTERNATE aTTaX spanning a decade and three different versions of the game, and in more recent times as a long-time player in Unicorns of Love. From the latter team, crisby has a connection to OG's assistant coach, Alexander "kakafu" Szymanczyk, who stood behind UoL for over a year in 2020-2021.

Former ALTERNATE aTTaX veteran will lead OG's academy team

After a long playing career, crisby recently transitioned into coaching with North American squad and Fragadelphia 16-winning side Strife, where the German skipper spent the last four months before leaving in preparation for his move to OG.

"First of all, I’m really happy and grateful for getting the opportunity to work for such a world class organization on their academy project to develop players for the future," crisby said in a statement to OG.

"I also want to thank Strife for giving me the opportunity as a coach. While it was my first experience in that role, I gained the knowledge I believe will help as set the foundation in my new well as the new home that is OG."

The announcement of a new academy coach comes at a time when OG's main team's results have drastically worsened when compared to their successful debut at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups following the switch of Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen for Nemanja "nexa" Isaković.

After qualifying for the Spring Final with an impressive record, the European squad went on to get eliminated in joint-last place at IEM Katowice by HEROIC and MOUZ. They then failed to qualify for PGL Major Antwerp with a 2-3 record in the European RMR B tournament, suffering losses to Natus Vincere, FORZE, and Eternal Fire.

Been loyal to fnatic since he joined as his first legit org and never left which is insane. He has no reason to stay, all his friends are gone... no point in being loyal to fnatic anymore.

If TL make an Academy team, they are either going to move to EU or the team will straight up be an EU team because rules won't allow main teams and Academy teams to play in the same ladder leagues. ESEA is the only consistent tournaments going on, so TL Academy without ESEA would have 0 events to play in NA.

But BIG Academy, Fnatic Academy and other academy teams are able to play in ESEA Advanced EU. The thing is they would not be able to attend EPL, but i think there is no trouble in attending Advanced or even Challenger League.

i think would be much better if they play mostly in NA, against the toughest competition in there like Godsent, paiN and PA, going for the Academy League in Europe, playing tournaments like Malta Vibes and training against t2 eu teams. This would help develop young talents in NA and serve as a "plausible" chance for the youngsters who enjoy CS more than Valo. Specially if they play agains these academy teams already in Advanced or even Challenger.

only idiots complain. the more attention "low tier" cs gets the better for the scene as a whole. if you as a player feel like there is no way to work up your way and get recognized you might as well spend your time with something else.

Lately, most org realized develop young talent in their own org are much practical, you can nurture them with the org vision, to whatever you want them become (as player), Also it much saving, if main team didn't working, rather sign player in another team that yet proven good and whether they could adapt with team philosophy or not, Instead, team just can promote young academy player whenever they want. the results might be the same or worse, but for the at least, the exposure of higher tier cs would definitely sharpened their skills. Basically it's a good long term investment. My hope to team academy: focus on developing more young players for IGL role, at least apply basic skills of IGL (calling, strats, information gathering, etc)
